The Truth About Free Credit Reports

There is a lot of deception when it comes to downloading a free credit report online. The confusion comes from less than scrupulous companies offering free reports, many with no score attached, for enrolling in services with hidden fees. This lens attempts to clear up the misconceptions and point consumers in the right direction to a legitimate and totally free credit report.

Requesting Your Free Report

There's only ONE authorized and government approved site

You have to be careful of those so-called free reports. Most try to hide the fact you need to enroll in a paid service to get the free report. The paid service is usually a credit protection or reporting program.

I recommend you take a look at the The Federal Trade Commission's Information on Free Annual Credit Reports at http://www.ftc.gov/freereports

The ONLY official site authorized to offer your free annual credit report under The Fair Credit Reporting Act is AnnualCreditReport.com

The Fair Credit Reporting Act gives you access to a free credit report from each of the three credit reporting agencies, Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion every year. You won't find those hidden fees for unwanted services at AnnualCreditReport.com.

Go to http://www.ftc.gov/freereports to learn how to request my free credit report. Basically, you can request them free of charge online at http://www.annualcreditreport.com/, by calling 1-877-322-8228 or by submitting the .PDF form found on the FTC's site.
