Tshirts To Color Party

The Inspiration for a Tshirts to Color Party
The basic inspiration is already there with an outline art design ready to be painted/colored in. The kids get to use their artisitic talents and they also get to use their imagination. They can color, paint in the basic design and they can add to it. Then they get to take them home and wear them!
Kids love to create, so let their creative juices roll; this is no time for having to stay inside the lines. They could be adding fur on the cat, stars around the space shuttle, a starfish by the fish, etc.
So let the creative painting fun begin with a Tshirts to Color Party.
The Plan for the Tshirts To Color Party
How many kids are you planning for?
Are they all boys, all girls, or both?
What kind of designs might they like?
Can they easily hold a paint marker with little or no supervision?
Do you have at least one week, two is better, before the party date? If so, then on we go.
To see all the design options:
Click on any shirt below, then under Product Line(found on the left hand side), click on Outline Art - Color in tshirts and aprons.
Pick your design(s), the shirt style, and size(s), and place your order
Make You Tshirt Selections
Click on any shirt above to begin the ordering process.
Click on the design of your choice, select from the apparel and color options. Light colors are best.
Type in the quantity you want. A five percent discount begins with two or more shirts; and they can be different designs.
Before the party - Preparation and Supplies
The paint will adhere better when fabric softener is not used.
You will also need a piece of cardboard for each shirt. The cardboard needs to be large enough for the design area, plus some for artisic creativity. So if you have eight shirts, you will need eight pieces of carboard.
If you don't have any boxes lying around, grocery stores are usually pretty good about helping out. You can also order cardboard cake boards below; the rectangle ones are best for good coverage area in the shirt, or purchase them from a store that sells cake supplies.
You will also need a color assortment of fabric paint. Recommendations are below.
The kids will need old shirts to wear, or an apron of sorts, to help protect their clothing.
And for your table, it is best to have some paper or plastic to help protect it. If you have a newspaper company in the area, you can check with them for an end of roll. Our newspaper company gives them away. One is plenty.
Cake Boards
Wilton 10-by-14-Inch Cake Board, 6-Pack
Amazon Price: $6.99 (as of 07/06/2009)![]()
The cake boards give a nice flat, non-bleed through surface to work on.
Choosing the Paint
My recommendation is fabric paint pens, also called fabric paint markers.
Another option is fabric paint, which can either be squeezed on or brushed on. There is also a puffy fabric paint which has a raised effect.
Fabric Paint Pens
Fabric Paint Pens (Pk/50)
Amazon Price: $13.63 (as of 07/06/2009)![]()
With fabric paint pens, there is no mixing of fabric mediums with paint. No brushes are needed.
Fabric Paint
Just squeeze some out on paper plates for the kids to paint from; makes clean up easy.
Color Splash ! Fabric Paint (Pk/12)
Amazon Price: $31.48 (as of 07/06/2009)![]()
No mixing required to be ready for the fabric.
Paint Brush Assortment
Older kids may prefer having more options of thick lines and thin lines.
Disposable bibs
Be sure to roll up any sleeves.
50 Lobster Themed Disposable Bibs
Amazon Price: (as of 07/06/2009)![]()
Cheaper than a bunch of aprons, and fun to wear too.

Party Day - The Plan
The first activity will be painting the color in (outline art) tshirts.
Have the kids or help the kids put on their old shirts or aprons/bibs.
Slide a piece of cardboard, centered behind the outline art drawing, inbetween the front and back of the tshirts. Lay flat for each child to paint.
Let the painting begin. If using the paint pens, they might need to be shaken first. If so, leave the cap on when shaking them. Follow manufactures instructions for getting the paint flow to start.
If using the paint in bottles, shake each bottle, and apply a small amount of paint on each child's paper plate. Have a rinsing container and paper towels available for when they want to change colors. The brushes should be rinsed when they change colors and wiped off on the towel, and again when they are done painting.
When the kids are done painting, allow the cardboards to remain in the shirts so the colors won't bleed through to the backs, while other activities are being done.
Do any other activities, games, have cake, open presents, etc. All this gets done allowing the shirts to have drying time. If the shirts need to dry further, a hair dryer can help, before removing the cardboard.
Let the parents know any other manufacturer's instructions for setting the design, such as dryer time, days to wait before laundering. The kids will get to enjoy their master pieces for a long time.

Hi Alison. It shouldn't take that long for the paints to dry to the touch, as long as it is applied thinly. Paints that are applied thickly may need some extra help from a hair dryer. It will take longer for the paints to become set and may have to be heat set, according to the manufacturer's instructions. The paint will have better adhesion properties to fabric that is clear of softeners, etc.
