Tupac's Biography

a brief glance of 2Pac's life

Tupac Amaru Shakur BiographyTupac Shakur was born Lesane Parish Crooks in New York, in 1971. His mother changed his name to Tupac Amaru when we has very young after an Inca Indian revolutionary, "Tupac Amaru", meaning "Shining Serpent". "Shakur" means "Thankful To God" in Arabic.

Tupac grew up primarily in Harlem. In 1984, his family moved to Baltimore, Maryland where he attended The Baltimore School for the Performing Arts studying acting and ballet.

His family moved again in 1988 to Oakland, California. His first musical breakthrough came in 1991 as a member of the group Digital Underground. In the same year he released his first album "2Pacalypse Now," and this album was also the beginning of his notoriety as a leading figure of the gangsta permutation of hip-hop, with references to cop killing and sexual violence. His solo movie career also began in this year with Juice (1992), and in 1992 he co-starred with Janet Jackson in Poetic Justice (1993).

But law confrontations were soon to come: a 15-day jail term in 1994 for assault and battery and, in 1995, a conviction for sexual assault of a female fan. He was released after serving eight months pending an appeal, but following the Tyson vs Seldon fight in Las Vegas, Nevada, he was hit by four bullets while riding in a car driven by Death Row Records chief executive Marion 'Suge' Knight. His right lung was removed in emergency surgery and, after six days in a medical coma, he died.

Tupac Shakur Longed for Changes

by Duane Lawton

2Pac Shakur Changes

"We gotta make a change...
It's time for us as a people to start makin' some changes.
Let's change the way we eat, let's change the way we live
and let's change the way we treat each other.
You see the old way wasn't working so it's on us to do
what we gotta do, to survive."
-Tupac

The late Tupac Shakur, the most celebrated rapper in history of Hip-Hop, was speaking to society as a whole on his inspirational song, Changes. Released after his untimely death, "Changes" is about a young black man who goes through an emotional rollercoaster, expressing everything from bitterness to hope over both his life and of society in general. Tupac challenges us all to change our ways and to treat one another with love and respect.

Within his music, one can tell that Tupac longed for changes in his own life. He was a man of contradictions. He would rhyme about violence and rhyme about peace, sometimes, all in the same song. But as the chorus in the song Changes says, "that's just the way it is". No one is totally consistent in the way they live and how they think. And Tupac was no different.

"I got love for my brother but we can never go nowhere
unless we share with each other
We gotta start makin' changes
learn to see me as a brother instead of 2 distant strangers
and that's how it's supposed to be..."

How can we be inspired by Tupac's "Changes"?

With all of the turmoil in society, each one of us can embrace change for the better and make a difference in the lives of others.
Ultimately, that's what Tupac wanted to do; make the world a better place by exposing the harsh realities of life while instilling in the youth hope for the future.

Ghetto Gospel Lyrics

2Pac with Elton John

Tupac Shakur Song Ghetto Gospel
Uh..
Hit 'em with a little ghetto gospel

[Chorus: Elton John]
Those who wish to follow me (My ghetto gospel)
I welcome with my hands
and the red sun sinks at last
into the hills of gold
And peace to this young warrior
Without the sound of guns

[Verse 1]
If I could recollect before my hood days
I'd sit and reminisce thinkin of bliss of the good days
I stop and stare at the younger my heart goes to 'em
They test, it was stress that they under
And nowadays things changed
Everyone's ashamed of the youth, cuz the truth look strange
And for me it's reversed, we left them a world that's cursed and it hurts
Cuz any day they'll push the button
And all good men like Malcolm X and Bobby Hutton died for nottin
don't it make you get teary , the world looks dreary
When you wipe your eyes see it clearly
There's no need for you to fear me
If you take your time to hear me, maybe you can learn to cheer me
It ain't about black or white, cuz we're human
I hope we see the light before it's ruined
My Ghetto Gospel

[Chorus]
Those who wish to follow me (Ghetto gospel)
I welcome with my hands
and the red sun sinks at last
into the hills of gold
And peace to this young warrior
Without the sound of guns

[Verse 2]
Tell me do you see that old lady, ain't it sad?
Livin outta bags, but she's glad for the little things she has
And over there there's a lady
Crack got her crazy, guess who's givin birth to a baby
I don't trip and let it fade me
From outta the frying pan we jumpin to another form of slavery
Even now I get discouraged
Wonder if they take it all back, will I still keep the courage?
I refuse to be a role model
I set goals, take control, drink out my own bottles
I make mistakes but learn from every one
And when it's said and done
I bet this brotha be a better one
If I upset you dont stress
Never forget, that God hasn't finished with me yet
I feel his hand on my brain
When I write rhymes I go blind and let the Lord do his thang
But im less holy?
Cuz I took a puff of blunt and drink a beer with my homies
Before we find world peace
We gotta find peace and end the war on the streets
My Ghetto Gospel

[Chorus]
Those who wish to follow me (Yea, ghetto gospel)
I welcome with my hands
and the red sun sinks at last
into the hills of gold
And peace to this young warrior
Without the sounds of guns

Lord can you hear me speak?

I pay the price of being hell bound!

Tupac: Resurrection

a must have dvd for both fans and non-fans

Tupac Movie ResurrectionThe late rap superstar was a complex, contradictory figure and, throughout the course of this riveting documentary, it's as if he's back in our world again. Produced by his mother, former Black Panther Afeni Shakur, Tupac Resurrection isn't so much "biased" as it's subjective.

In the MTV film, accompanied by a book and soundtrack, director Lauren Lazin looks at Tupac's short, full life from beginning to end and doesn't avoid the dark times--the arrests, the shootings--but she does tend to emphasize the positive over the negative. He's more thoughtful and articulate than his detractors might expect (despite the profanity), but the contradictions remain, making this essential viewing for even the most casual of fans.

Above the Rim (1994)

one of the best perfomances by Tupac Shakur

This rousing basketball drama centers around Tommy "Shep" Sheppard (Leon), a former high school basketball star now haunted by the accidental death of his best friend, and Kyle Watson (Duane Martin), an arrogant high school player in danger of slipping into crime. Though Shep avoids commitment in his life as a security guard, his attraction to Kyle's mother (Tonya Pinkins) draws him out of his protective shell--but Kyle is more interested in mentorship from Shep's gangster brother Birdie (Tupac Shakur).

Gridlock'd

2pac's Last Movie

British actor Tim Roth and the rapper Tupac Shakur are an unexpectedly charismatic and refreshing duo in this off-beat buddy movie. Closer than two brothers, these junkie musicians vow to kick their habits after a soul-shattering New Year's Eve. Gridlock'd is fueled by characterization, of which there is plenty, as the two play off one another with such finesse you would never know Shakur had been a relative novice to the acting profession. Off-beat humor lightens a bleak reality as these outcasts run smack against a brutal bureaucracy.

Tupac Uncensored and Uncut: The Lost Prison Tapes (2011)

As Tupac's interviewer announces, 'Tupac, this interview is not about your trial, or your court appeals it is about Tupac, the inner man, then, and now.'

Featuring an uncut and never-before-seen interview at the Clinton Correctional Facility, TUPAC UNCENSORED AND UNCUT: THE LOST PRISON TAPES presents a raw look into Tupac's world, as the rapper riffs on topics ranging from his involvement with gang life to prisons in America to his relationship with his mother. What emerges is a moving self-portrait of an artist who sees himself as fundamentally misunderstood: He may have diagnosed thug life, but he didn't invent it, and he is determined to uplift not destroy the black community.

Capturing the intensity and passion of a fierce talent, TUPAC UNCENSORED AND UNCUT: THE LOST PRISON TAPES offers a glimpse inside the mind of the enigmatic artist whose music is, in his own words, 'all about life.'

I Cry by Tupac

Sometimes when I'm alone
I Cry,
Cause I am on my own.
The tears I cry are bitter and warm.
They flow with life but take no form
I Cry because my heart is torn.
I find it difficult to carry on.
If I had an ear to confiding,
I would cry among my treasured friend,
but who do you know that stops that long,
to help another carry on.
The world moves fast and it would rather pass by.
Then to stop and see what makes one cry,
so painful and sad.
And sometimes...
I Cry
and no one cares about why.

And Tomorrow by Tupac

Today is filled with anger, fueled with hidden hate.
Scared of being outkast, afraid of common fate.
Today is build on tragedies which no one want's to face.
Nightmares to humanity and morally disgraced.
Tonight is filled with Rage, violence in the air.
Children bred with ruthlessness cause no one at home cares.
Tonight I lay my head down but the pressure never stops,
knowing that my sanity content when I'm droped.
But tomorrow I see change, a chance to build a new,
build on spirit intent of heart and ideas based on truth.
Tomorrow I wake with second wind and strong because of pride.
I know I fought with all my heart to keep the dream alive.

tupac had 3 elements to his songs that made them so great: (1) he had something interesting to say, at least in most songs; (2) he had rhythm to his voice and creativity with words that few others have been able to match; and (3) he put both of those elements together with a good beat. if you look at other rappers, they tend to have 1 or 2 of these elements but not all three. for instance i like talib kwali and nas but the beats and rhythm are sometimes lacking, and in the songs where they add the better rhythm they sacrifice the quality. even tupac did this at times but mostly he put everything together. eminem had the latter two elements in his first two albums but his anger got a bit old and only the occasional song has a decent message. and his later albums have been mostly unlistenable because instead of putting his work to rap beats he's trying to mix in a lot of rock stuff that just doesn't have the bounce to put his incredible linguistic abilities to.
