I do not buy any band of dog food, but only feed DIY food with milk and meat,

I think it is great. So many commercial foods today are down right dangerous to our dogs. Even some of the smaller cottage industries. Prepare food at home for your dog or learn how to read dog labels. A http://www.jimhodgesdogtraining.com/">Dog Training Professional who cares.

:) I am sure all dogs love this kind of food. But the other side would be - how expensive it is to feed your dog with it. I guess it all depends on how much you love your pet.

I've heard garlic is bad for dogs? My guys get ground turkey on their kibble sometimes. :)
  • azpoppy Jan 29, 2010 @ 3:23 pm | delete
Actually, garlic is considered to be safe for dogs. It has wonderful immune boosting and anti-inflammatory properties that make it a good food supplement. If you would like more information, read the article at the top of my list of links. They discuss garlic in more detail. Thanks for commenting.

Excellent lens! Thanks so much for sharing your story and recipe with us. I too experienced the wallet-lightening prescription dog food trials - and also found that one without grains and unique protein (in our case, venison) calmed our wee dachshund's itchy ears. Now I am going to try your recipe!

Nice Lens. Congrats on Lens of The Day!
  • mdpatrick Nov 21, 2009 @ 6:25 pm | delete
You know, something else this made me think of is the fact that canned food in general has high levels of bisphenol A which messes with the human endocrine system. Almost certainly does the same thing to dogs, so by eliminating canned dog food you're also removing that potentially detrimental affect from your dogs diet.

Just stopped by to congratulate you on your LOTD. Congratulations! When I read your lens, I was surprised at how many things we have in common. You are deaf, I teach ASL. (I am not deaf but have a friend who is. 3 years ago I learned ASL so that I could teach her as well as others.) We also have 2 miniature Australian Sheep dogs. (sisters, but one is small and one is bigger). Sad to say our Minnie, our Sheltie, got cancer and died not very long ago (Age 14.) Minnie was raised on food I made for her and she thrived on it. When we got the other 2 puppies we decided that we would try them on a high end dog food. I just couldn't see making dog food for 3 dogs. That is all they still eat plus dog treats. We have a great yard for them to play in and every day we take them for a walk on a leash. They have a good life. Love your lens. 5*s, favorite, I've become a fan and also lensrolled you to my personal lens. (You'll see our Miss Twiggie and Bella Blue there.) Cheers!

Poor dogs they already have a short life cycle and than we feed them can 'food'
or 'food from a bag made in a factory full of chemicals and worthless fillers as you say
most dogs are over weight sick and die early from this fake food.. just like humans that eat too much processed foods.. thanks for the recipes
P.s Nuts are bad for dogs also because their body do not digest them
  • Sylvestermouse Nov 8, 2009 @ 6:05 pm | delete
Wow! This is wonderful! I am definitely making this dog food for my beautiful baby. We fought the same battle of ear infections, medications and vet bills for 13 years with our gorgeous black lab. I knew it was food allergies, but we never found a way to completely cure him. He was never allowed milk products and we feed him boiled eggs daily. We tried so hard to find a solution. I really wish I had this recipe to try. Our big dog died this past September and I miss him terribly. It is really sad to think there might have been a real solution to his irritating, recurrant ear infections.

Great information that every dog owner should have. Your sweet dog is lucky to have
such a good mom. I am going to send this link to my daughter so she can make a healthy Thanksgiving meal for her dog. The Humane Society is one of my favorite charities.
