The Three Courses at Turnberry
The Ailsa Course, redesigned by Mackenzie Ross between 1949 and 1951, has staged The Open Championship on three occasions. In 1977, the course was the scene of the famous "duel in the sun", when Tom Watson claimed victory ahead of Jack Nicklaus. Greg Norman claimed his first major title at Turnberry in 1986, and Nick Price his second in 1994. The course is next scheduled to host the Open in 2009.The Ailsa Course has also hosted many other important golf tournaments, including the Women's British Open in 2002, the Walker Cup in 1963, and the Senior Open Championship on six occasions, 1987-1990, 2003 and 2006.
The other two courses at Turnberry are the Kintyre Course, another championship standard course that has hosted final qualifying for The Open, and the nine hole Arran Course. The Kintyre Course, opened in 2001, was designed by Donald Steel and built on the foundations of the old Arran layout, which had been rebuilt along with the Ailsa Course following World War II, when the courses had been used as an airfield. The new Arran Course opened in 2002.
Other golf facilities at the resort include the Colin Montgomerie Links Golf Academy, and a pitch and putt course.

- First of all, I have to admit to being biased. I live a few miles from Turnberry and I absolutely love the Clyde Coast. When I was 12 my mum taught me to drive her car on the disused airfield at Turnberry. I have travelled over the world and I still think Turnberry is beautiful. I like St Andrews too but Turnberry does it for me!
This is a great lens and you have done justice to one of my favourite places.
