Welcome to "All You Ever Wanted to Know about the Dashing Duo: Tweedledee & Tweedledum"!
Surely, you've heard of them...no, they're not the "Bobbsey Twins", the "Doublemint Gum Twins", or even an obscure name for the slugging "Minnesota Twins"...word has it they're not even twins at all!

WHO ARE TWEEDLEDEE AND TWEEDLEDUM ANYWAY?
"Tweedledee" and "Tweedledum" are fictional characters from a well-known children's book entitled, Through the Looking Glass and What Alice Found There, written by C.S. Lewis in 1871. Often portrayed as pleasingly plump twins who are identical in speech, attitude, and appearance, they are in fact cousins.The origin of these characters can be found in the early nineteenth century nursery rhymes featuring two pugnacious pot-bellied personalities. Although they argued over trivial matters, they never actually contradicted each other nor ever really got down to blows according to the following delightful ditty:
Tweedledum and Tweedledee
Agreed to have a battle;
For Tweedledum said Tweedledee
Had spoiled his nice new rattle.
Just then flew down a monstrous crow,
As black as a tar-barrel;
Which frightened both the heroes so,
They quite forgot their quarrel.
So, just in case you're getting a little lost in this shaggy dog tale and scratching your head a wee bit, the dictionary states that "tweedle·dum· and tweedle·dee" is a noun phrase, meaning "two persons or things so much alike as to be almost indistinguishable". Figuratively, any two people or positions that have no real differences are said to be "like Tweedledum and Tweedledee".
