Operation Twin Homebirth

My husband and I were blessed with our first child in June 2000...a beautiful daughter was born in the hospital. Hers was a straightforward labor and birth but I was becoming increasingly frustrated with having to fight for evidenced based care. My ob refused to care for me without an ultrasound with my second pregnancy. I miscarried a few weeks later and vowed to seek a different model of care for future children. I hired a midwife in 2002 for my third pregnancy and we welcomed another little girl in August, an amazing home waterbirth that touched my husband and I to the core. In 2004, the girls were joined by a little brother, welcomed with love, in water at home, by his doting parents and sisters. Again in 2006, a little boy joined the family, into the loving arms of his family, again at home in water.

None of these pregnancies and births was perfect...high blood pressure, PVC's, posterior positions, anterior lip of cervix, etc But with each variation, our midwife discussed our options with us and, as a team, we decided how to proceed. Evidenced-based, respect-filled care at its best. Being treated as capable, responsible parents of our unborn children offered us the opportunity to be exactly that and has launched us into a gentle, conscious parenting experience that continues to blow our minds!

In June 2009, we look forward to welcoming our twins with love, in the comfort of our home. And again, we look forward to a gentle conscious parenting experience that will shape and perfect us as much as our children!
