Type 2 Diabetes

The most common form of diabetes is Type 2. In this case, the cells of the body ignore the insulin or does not produce an adequate enough amount. Insulin is a necessity in being able to use glucose (blood sugar) for energy. When you consume food, the body takes the food and breaks it down into two basic things, sugars and starches. Then, the insulin takes the sugars and moves them into the blood. When this happens, one of two things can occur; high blood glucose levels or cells may be starved. People who find out they have diabetes tend to panic. Take a deep breath. Diabetes can be terrifying, but people who are diagnosed with diabetes can live long healthy lives.

Diabetes affects people of all races and all ages, but Type 2 tends to affect some more than others. Type 2 is more common in Native Americans, Latinos, Asian Americans/Pacific Islanders, African Americans, and the older aged population. Type 2 diabetes can cause serious complications; blindness, heart disease, kidney damage and nerve damage.

When the kidneys are affected, they lose their ability to filter waste. If the kidneys can not filter waste, then dialysis is required.Dialysis cleans the blood by using the stomach lining as a kind of "waste basket". From the stomach they remove the excess waste and fluid from the body. Making healthy decisions a priority in one's life can prevent or even delay the onset of Type 2 diabetes Reducing the amount of alcohol you consume and even quitting smoking cigarettes will greatly improve your health with or without diabetes.

Type 2, as well as other forms can also cause depression. Getting down once in a while is normal, but some tend to feel sad all the time. Feeling like this everyday for more than two weeks should be a signifier to take a trip to the doctor. Although there are many psychological and physical complications that come along with Type 2, if tended to, excitement and panic are not necessary. Taking care of yourself is really all there is to it. Keep a healthy diet, exercise and maintain your insulin regimen.
