United States in the 1800's
Ranked #606 in Education, #13,807 overall
19th Century History learning is fun!
So many things can happen during a short century of history! Exciting people interacting positively and negatively upon each other ~ changes in governments and geographic borders ~ artists, musicians, authors, and architects recording their time and preserving the past with their arts ~ and new discoveries and inventions by scientists and mathematicians!
The nineteenth century sure had its exciting moments to remember! It was a century of change, revolution, adventure, expansion, industry, invention, style, and way of life.
Since I love to research and teach via unit studies, I usually gather more information than I can possibly use, then glance over my lists to pick favorites for my students. A collection of assorted provisions to learn about the 1800's in many subject areas follows. Please use them, share new ones, or leave a message! :D

- Looking at everything that the US did in the 19th century it is almost like we felt inadequate at the lack of accomplishments compared to the European powers so we tried to cram a few hundred years of history into one century.

- This is an excellent lens on the 1800s time period of America. Big issues like westward expansion, slavery, revolutionary inventions like the telegraph and railroad. You should also cover the Civil War and the period afterwards on Reconstruction to show them how it affected life later on in the 1900s and eventually the Civil Rights Movement.

- Hi! Thank you for your comments! We did cover the Civil War and the Reconstruction Era very thoroughly. I used to have the info here, but because the amount was so huge, I created a separate page for it which is listed above. Hopefully it will help others learn about this time, also. :)
