Underwater Digital Camera
I have experienced the devastation of destroying a camera in salt water. All I was doing was running along the sand on the beach where the waves were lapping. I tripped and down I went, just as a wave was coming in. The camera was only submerged for a split second, but that was enough to make it seize. Most of the time cameras and beaches do not mix - unless of course you have an underwater digital camera.
Another time, many years ago, I went on a kayaking-camping expedition. We had to take extra special precautions for just in case we capsized the kayak. Consequently I could not have my camera available for shots as I was kayaking but had to wait until we landed to extract it from all its wrappings. (Fortunately, I did not capsize so I didn't have to test if our precautions were sufficient.) I would have loved this Canon Powershot Waterproof digital camera back then!
PROS of the Canon PowerShot D10 Waterproof / Underwater Digital Camera

- The Canon PowerShot D10 Waterproof / Underwater Digital Camera is waterproof (to 33 feet), freezeproof (can withstand temperatures as low as 14°F and as high as 104°F) and shockproof (to 4 feet) making it perfect for a varity of activities, such as beach vacations (snorkeling, surfing, fishing), snow vacations (skiing, snowboarding) and many other activities.
- This underwater digital camera has larger control buttons than other cameras making it easier for gloved fingers (when skiing or diving) to operate.
- The camera has an extra bright 2.5 inch LCD which can easily be seen in bright sun or underwater, and which has a protective surface to prevent scratching.
- The 12.1 megapixels enable you to make stunning enlargements of your special photos to display your adventure.
- There is a nifty face detection self-timer which will wait until an extra face enters the frame before starting the countdown. So, no more of those half in, half out photos.
- The Optical Image Stabilizer Technology (OST) automatically detects and corrects camera shake to prevent blurred images even underwater.

Canon PowerShot D10 Waterproof / Underwater Digital Camera Reviews
I was at the Waipio Valley beech in Hawaii when this camera really got put to the test. My buddy lost the camera in the surf!(why he was not wearing the wrist band, I don't know!?!?) The camera spent 10 minutes underwater in the big waves pounding against rocks and sand on the beech. Our entire group of friends rushed into the water to look for it and amazingly we found it! It has been beat up and scratched pretty good, but still works great. There is not a scratch on the lens, so it must be well protected. I can't think of a more brutal test for the camera and it came through(and back) amazingly. So there you have it. I will try freezing it during the ski season.

My daughter and I have had four trips recently where the D10 got its workout in the water. While we never took it deeper than 12 feet, it performed flawlessly, and I was most impressed with the automatic color correction in the water -- those typical blue and green casts were barely there -- and I wasn't even in the "underwater mode".
For the shock-proof feature, we dropped it onto concrete from five feet (not on purpose!). It landed on the lens housing first; there is a tiny little scratch there. Other than that, there is no evidence it was ever dropped. All the functionality is still there, and the pictures look great. Shock-proof test: passed.

I got 2 of these cameras for work. I run a Kids program at a hotel in Maui, and I take pictures of the kids to e-mail to the parents when they come back. We go to the beach and to the pool, and are in and out of the sun and the water and always on the move. Even on the auto setting, all of the photos I have taken have come out perfectly. Underwater is great also, and I don't have any qualms about plunging the camera right into the water. It seems very tough and waterproof. I even can let the kids take a few pictures without constantly worrying. From action shots on the beach, to underwater, to macro and low light, this camera does the trick.

This is an amazing camera! Not only are the underwater shots amazing (as verified by some friends who are ultra-snobby about underwater picture quality), but every other picture I've taken- from landscapes to macros of really small orchids-- have been the best of any camera I've ever had (and I have some cameras much "fancier" than this one!)

As a offshore yacht racer, I eagerly awaited the release of the Canon D10. We used the camera (exclusively) on our recent race across the Pacific from Los Angeles to Honolulu. The camera was used by everyone onboard and typically stayed above deck the entire trip (in the rain, heat, cold, etc.). The image quality and video of the camera has allowed us to create a professional video of the race to share with our friends and family. The size, quality, and price-point for the camera greatly exceeded our expectations!

CONS of the Canon PowerShot D10 Waterproof / Underwater Digital Camera
- Most of the reviews I read on this underwater digital camera are very favorable, but one of the main complaints was that the camera is a bit bulky and won't fit in your pocket. But afterall, it was built for rugged use and this sturdy camera can take a fall or two.
- There is no lens cap for the camera, but because the glass shield is scratchproof, it can stand quite a battering (as one of the reviews I included here points out).
- The camera does not float, so you have to make sure that you have it securely attached to you when you're in the water. Or for added safety, buy a floating camera strap.
- Just thought I should remind you that this camera is only waterproof to 33 feet (10 meters). If you plan to go deeper, you will need a different camera.

- It's no in my budget just yet, but I'd love to own that camera. I do sea kayaking in the summer and I often am surrounded by harbour seals, white jellyfish, sea stars and even jumping salmon. I could surely put an underwater camera to great use.
