About Underwater Adventure

Written in 1954, Underwater Adventure is the third book in the Adventure series by Willard Price.

The Adventure series covers the adventures of Hal and Roger Hunt, a pair of young zoologists who capture animals alive for parks and conservation. Designed for a younger audience, Price - a naturalist who worked for National Geographic - hoped to promote a love and appreciation for the natural world in his readers.

The Hunts have joined an expedition to learn to scuba dive and collect underwater specimens. Along the way, Hal is less than pleased when a past associate (or known poor character) turns up as part of the expedition. Sure enough, it's not long before the theats facing the expedition include man-made peril.

About Underwater Adventure

The book the lens focuses on

The Hunts are once again onboard the Lively Lady, this time with an experienced diver and scientist who is present to perform a range of underwater experiments. Since he needs help, he teaches both boys to dive - snorkelling, scuba, and traditional suited diving. At the same time as performing his experiments, the Hunts are once more on commission to capture animals and sea creatures for their father.

Running into eels, clams and a range of other fish and animals, the Hunts once again run into complications in their scientific mission. The presence of the shipwreck of a Spanish bullion vessel attracts less savory characters, and a huricane in the region threatens to destroy everything they are working for - not to mention the boys themselves...

This book can be difficult to get hold of. One of the few books that features deaths, and a villian who is both a coward and sociopathic, it is rarely reprinted as parents are often concerned about what their children read. I was in the early teens when I got hold of it though, and frankly I didn't see what all the fuss was about.
