When you use a combination of mirrors and candle sconces, you are serving two purposes at the same time. The mirrors are functional with or without the candles lit.

Yet when you want more ambiant lighting, simply light the candles. The mirrors will reflect the soft light of the candles giving your room a more soft romantic touch. Not to mention the metal wall grilles in between these mirors.

How to Keep Your Metal Home Decor Looking Good 

A simple tip for keeping your wrought iron looking great may sound a little strange, but it works.

When you first receive your wall decor, or any wrought iron, or metal piece for that matter, give it a couple of light coats of clear spray paint. This will help protect metal or wrought iron from getting rusty or changing colors.

Now I know your first instinct will be to think about getting rustoleum paint. However, that is not necessary. Just go to any department store that carries paint products and get a cheap can of clear spray paint.

Thoroughly clean and wipe down your piece, then give it a light coat of paint. When that first coat dries, lightly paint it again.

You will end up with a piece of metal or wrought iron for the indoors, or outdoors, that will last longer.

What do you mean a "Spaghetti" Lamp?

If you have never heard of spaghetti pottery you are in for a treat! In the image here, you can see a Capodimonte Lamp with a "Spaghetti Lampshade".

There a number of Capodimonte products that are made using spaghetti pottery. But because making Spaghetti decor is quite time consuming, the prices are a bit higher than for regular pottery and porcelain.

Making the spaghetti pottery is similar to the making of the spaghetti we eat.

The clay is worked into the desired consistency, then flattened with a tool similar to a rolling pin. When it reaches the correct thickness, the clay is then put through a machine similar to the one in the picture.

After the clay comes out of the machine and is shaped like "spaghetti", the individual pieces are then woven together into the desired shape. The clay is then baked. When it has cooled, various adornments are added and a glaze painted onto it. The piece is then baked again.

There is alot of hand craft that goes into these pieces, so if you are fortunate enough to acquire one, it is something that should be kept in good condition in order for it to both maintain and increase in value.

Choosing home decor accessories can be a challenge sometimes. We know what we like but we don't know how to put it together.

For people that don't find home decorating easy, I recommend thinking in pairs. When you have a pair of like items you can create balance in a room.

Think about the table lamps in your living room. Generally we have an end table on both ends of our sofa. Each table usually has identical table lamps on them. This creates a sense of balance. The sofa is balanced by the end tables, the end tables are balanced by the table lamps.

If you repeat this pattern throughout the room, including the wall decor, you can create an atmosphere that you want to relax in.

Mix it up a little. Add some soft delicate things like pillows and throws. Then add some wrought iron or metal to your decor. Add a metal shelf with some porcelain pieces on it. Don't shy away from mixing textures. If you think in terms of 'pairs' of items, your decorating chore will be much easier.

* The ease of getting to the plants. A step plant pedestalmakes it easy for you to access your plants for watering, fertilizing, repotting, etc.

Here are a couple of tips for you if you intend to move your step planter outside in the summer. First I would recommend that you keep it on a covered patio. They are prone to rust. Second here is a little trick that I have used for years and have greatly extended the life span of all my outdoor wrought iron and metal accessories.

First I wipe down the entire piece when I first get it. Then I take a cheap can of clear spray paint and paint the entire piece. I paint the top, the bottom, the sides, etc. Making sure that every inch is painted. Pay special attention to the joints. Wherever there are two (2) pieces that are welded or soldered together, spray it twice or even three (3) times. Every bolt or screw needs to be painted at least twice. Next, check for any places where the water would gather after a rainstorm, or after watering. These are spots that will rust first, so they need to be painted more than once.

When you purchase the paint, clear rustoleum is good, but I have found that the cheapest can of clear spray paint works just as well.

With those tips, your plant stair pedestal with last for years.
