Ever think you could use Amazon.com to discover unique long tail keywords?

Ever think you could use Amazon.com to discover unique long tail keywords? Neither did I until I saw Rob Taylor's incredible video on YouTube! I really wish I had thought of this myself. I liked his technique so much I just had to pass it on. If you are struggling to find unique long-tail keywords for your Adwords campaigns, this may be your answer. And.. it's free!

So What's All This Talk About "Long Tail" Anyway?

In a nutshell, "long tail" refers to 3 and 4-keyword phrases which are very specific to a topic in someone's online search.

Basically, whenever a potential customer enters a highly specific search phrase, they tend to be looking for something they have already researched and therefore are ready to purchase.

That's both the explanation and the benefit of long tail keywords.

For a more in-depth explanation, please take a look at Three Good Reasons To Target Long-Tail Keywords! by Stephen Mahaney.

Here's A Text Summary of the Steps in "Keyword Analysis Research Using Amazon"

To find long tail / in-depth keywords for any topic or niche, first go to www.Amazon.com. Then...

  1. Select "Books" for your search and enter your general keyword or phrase in the Search box.

  2. In the results, select only relevant books that have the "Search Inside" feature activated. Click on one of these books.

  3. Hover your mouse over the cover art and a window will pop-up.

  4. Find the SIPs section (Statistically Improbable Phrases). If there is no SIPs section, then go back and try another book result until you get some SIPs.

  5. Click the (more) button in the SIPs section. You will see all the SIPs for this book.

  6. Click on a SIP you like and see if the results page shows at least 2 relevant books (relevant to your original keyword or niche.)

  7. If the results are too few or not relevant then skip this SIP and try another.

  8. If there are at least 2 relevant results for a SIP, then this SIP keyword phrase is probably a good one to use in Adwords or SEO (Search Engine Optimization) on your webpages.

  9. Lastly, once you are happy with the SIP phrase results for a book, hover over the book cover art again and find the "Browse Sample Pages" section. View the "Table Of Contents" and "Index". You should find many more specialized keywords on these pages.

  10. Repeat as desired for all of the original SIPs.

Clever Isn't It?

I hope you found this idea as clever as I did. This should really help those of us who want to target the "long tail" but don't want to spend a lot of money on software or other services to do so.

Good Luck!
