Wizard Kit

GRP Wizard panels for rapid transformation of your Beetle

Finally, you get to see some Wizard bits. The rear wings are 2" over wide GRP. Can't remember where the One piece flip front came from but when I borrowed a van to collect all the Wizard bits from Wizard, the Flip front was collected the same day from a place only a few miles down the road. The Wizard Company is not operating now as far as I am aware, if you differently, let me know. The best place to get panels now is probably from the Internet eg eBay.

Probably a better picture of the new bits. Lets start getting them fitted.

Windscreen first. If you are building a Wizard you have got to chop the screen, they look so much better for it. Agreed it is a bit more work and you have to sort the doors and so on, but you know you want to.

Mark the windcreen pillers, cut with grinder and there is no going back.

The screen surround has a small strengthening tube in side it which is positioned in the windcreen pillers first, once the height is correct it can be tack welded to the pillers. GRP screen surround is then bonded to the uprights of the screen pillers and the strengthening tube. Don't roll a Wizard the windcreen will not give you any protection!!!

You can see the strengthening tube better in this picture. There is a lot of work in chopping the screen on a Wizard, you have to sort out the tops of the pillers, blend in the GRP surround with the rest of the windscreen surround and the scuttle panel. Think carefully about doing it. It is well worth all the effort though.

VW Wizard Rear End Preparations

Chop your Beetle to fit the Wizard Kit

Now to the rear bodywork, You need to mark out the cuts with masking tape. Accuracy is not too critical as it will all be covered but you don't want to get too carried away.

The grinder has been busy again. Notice the inner has to be cut as well as the outer. Also note the strengthening box section across the middle, This has to be positioned reasonably accurately as the front edge of the GRP rear deck sits over this.

Picked up an engine from the local scrapyard, dragged it out of the back of a bay windowed camper and brought it home in the back of my Mk3 Escort. Started pulling it apart and found a bit of a mess on one of the heads!

Also managed to get hold of a pair of Sway-aways from somewhere, don't remember where, but probably one of the shows. Ready to weld into the beam when the body work is all sorted and I know what sort of ride height I want.
