America and Europe both celebrate Valentine's Day on February 14. Lovers traditionally express their love for one another on this day of love by sending valentine's day cards, candy and flowers. Today most people have no concept of how and when the holiday began, but millions celebrate it every year.

There are countless styles of Valentine cards on the market. Some cards are strictly romantic in nature and profess everlasting love. Yet other Valentine's Day cards are humorous. These cards sometimes make fun of couples or the concept of love/romance.

Sometimes, a couple has just broken up before the day of love. If this happens, there are cards to let that special someone know you are missing them and would like to make amends

You can also find Valentine cards expressing love that is not romantic. Cards such as these are for children to parents, siblings to one another and friends to friend. Cards are not the only way to show your affection on this wonderful day filled with love, but they are a great inexpensive way of expression.

Flowers and candy are great gifts for Valentines. However, I would advise that you find out many months in advance if your loved on is allergic to flowers or this could be a gift gone bad!! Roses are lovely, but remember they are not the only flowers out there. Be creative in your arrangements and show that you put a little effort into it by not selecting prearranged bouquets.

Candy is another area where you want to be certain you know the recipients taste. With that said there are many great ways to present a gift of candy. You can select the traditional heart shaped box of chocolates. However, you can create a basket gift from scratch and include candies with other little items.

Party Fun

If you plan on having a party or gathering for the Valentine's Day, a party themed gathering is always nice. Adults and children alike take pleasure in dressing up in costumes. Pick a theme based on a love story you have read or any other ideas that come to mind.

Another great idea for Valentine's Day celebration is for everyone to receive a pin upon entering the party. The pin should have wording on it, you have stolen my heart, I like you, will you be mine etc. The pins can be given away to others at the event with phone numbers or other contact information added.

Card games are fun too. Have a set of cards with different messages written on them. Fill a bag, hat bowl etc with the cards and everyone takes turn pulling cards from the container. The cards will have silly messages written on them. For instance, you may pull a card that states, "You must recite a poem for that special someone in front of everyone at the party."

There are many ideas you can create to make certain your party goes over well. These are just a tip of the iceberg!
