Vampire Diaries TV Show- Pilot Episode Recap

The scene begins with a couple driving in a car and happily chatting away. A thick fog begins to appear out of nowhere. The male is driving and out of the fog a person is standing right smack in the middle of the road.

Of course, the guy can't swerve around the person, because he appears too quickly giving the driver no time at all to respond. The guy hits the figure and the body of the person crashes against the windshield.

The couple is frantic, the guy asks the girl to call for help while he checks on the person he hit.

He goes to the lifeless body and feels for a pulse in his wrist (we get a shot of unique looking ring). All of a sudden the lifeless person grabs the guy by the throat and bites down.

The girl gets out of the car to let her friend know that there is no signal, only to find him dead with his neck bitten and bloody.

She runs away from the scene in a panic and gets picked up from something and disappears!

Stefan is the new guy in town, but not really. He was born in Mystic Falls and has returned home. But why?

"I shouldn't have come home, I know the risk. I have to know her." ~ Stefan

Somehow, Elena Gilbert (a young high school student) has drawn his attention. Elena's parents have been killed recently in a car accident. An accident that she survived. Elena and her brother are both students at Mystic Falls High and are returning to school for the first day.

Bonnie (who is Elena's best friend) is driving Elena and herself to school. Bonnie tells Elena that her "grams" has been telling her that she (Bonnie) is a witch.

All of sudden a black crow appears out of nowhere and smacks against the windshield of her car.

It's a pretty strange moment which causes Bonnie to swerve her car to the side of the street, barely missing a pole.
"It came out of nowhere!" ~ Bonnie



I get such a kick out of that little bird! Later, you'll realize what it really means.

It's the first day of school and Jeremy is supposedly high again and Elena sees him sneaking off to the men's room. She follows him in and accuses him of being stoned. Jeremy walks off, not really seeming to care but aggravated at his sister.

Elena is still in the men's room, walks out and bumps into the new guy, Stefan.
"Is this the men's room?" Stefan asks, wondering why she was just in there when she's obviously not a man. It's a cute little first meet up.

They end up walking away, all the while looking back at each other.

Elena walks home from school and pays a visit to the cemetery where her parents are buried.




She sits by their tombstone while she writes in her diary. It seems to be a really nice, sunny day, however, that quickly changes as the thick fog starts to roll in creeping her out. The little, black crow also appears and starts squaking at her and refuses to leave even after she shoos him away.

Elena gets up, a little scared of the darkness + crazy bird, and starts to run away. She turns around and sees a tall, dark shadow hiding behind a large statue. Whoever it was was watching her. Crazy and scary and creepy.

Elena keeps on running and falls down. She gets up and there is Stefan standing right in front of her(out of nowhere).

What a coincidence. She seems to think so too because she asks him,

"Are you following me?"



Of course he says no, and besides, was that dark figure really him?

He introduces himself and so does she. We get a glimpse of his huge ring. When she asks him he tells her, "It's a family ring."

Stefan furrows his eyebrows (so cute) and makes a face. He asks her, "Did you hurt yourself?" His extra sharp vampire sense of smell picks up something.

Elena picks up her jeans on one leg and sure enough, she's bleeding.

He turns away from the blood and you see his eyes turn dark, he's vamping out. He then tells her something like, "You should go and take care of that." She turns around and he's gone! Strange and kind of rude for him to leave like that, but given the circumstance it was for the best.

I've had lots of trouble finding Stefan's Lapis Lazuli ring, but here's a really great copy of it! What do you think of it? Just give it a second or two to load! :-)

Back at the Mystic Grill, the local hangout for the students, Jeremy is mad at Vicki (his summer fling and a druggie), because she has basically stopped seeing him for Tyler Lockwood.
It's worth noting that Jeremy is also her "drug supplier." Yeah.. pretty sad. He's only a kid too.

Stefan writes in his diary, while reflecting on his reaction toward Elena.
"I'm simply not able to resist her."



It's adorable that he keeps a diary. He oozes sensitivity. Love it.

Stefan heads over to Elena's house to apologize for his disappearing act at the cemetery. He also returns her diary which she dropped.

Elena is surprised when she hears that he keeps a journal too. Elena is heading out and invites Stefan to the Mystic Grill to meet up with some of her friends.

Matt (Elena's ex-boyfriend) is sad to see her arrive with Stefan. He's secretly hoping she'll turn around and change her mind about being with him.

There's a big party out in the woods and pretty much everyone is invited. Elena and Bonnie are discussing or joking about her "psychic powers." Elena asks Bonnie to predict something and hands her a beer bottle to use as a "crystal ball."

When Bonnie touches the bottle she eerily sees the fog and crow that Elena dealt with in the cemetery. Bonnie is shocked at her own discovery and walks away to fetch more beer.

Stefan arrives and is searching for Elena. He uses his super vampire hearing to hone in on her voice. He catches her and Bonnie chatting about him and overhears Bonnie say (before she saw the crow and fog)..
"He has that romance novel stare."




We get a glimpse of his smiling eyes at that comment. It's a really cute moment.

Stefan sneaks up on Elena and surprises her again. He's just too quick. They go for a little walk. Stefan asks her about her life and why she's seems so sad.
Elena tells him about her parents.
"You won't be sad forever Elena."~ Stefan



They have a sweet moment staring at each other.. that is until Stefan's eyes start vamping out.

Elena notices the veins and asks if he's okay. He says he's okay and as an excuse to leave, grabs her cup to get a "refill." He quickly takes off.

Caroline catches him as he's returning from wherever he ran off to and she lets him know that she's available. He turns her down nicely.

While the party is going on, Vicki is in the woods making out with Tyler. He tries to get Vicki to take it a lot further and she refuses and says..



"No, Ty, I'm not having sex against a tree!"
Tyler is overly aggressive and keeps trying, while Vicki is loudly saying, "No, No!"

Jeremy happens to be there and intervenes (Tyler leaves angry) and for some reason Vicki gets mad at Jeremy, saying something like "she had it under control."

Yeah, right.

Jeremy leaves or she walks away and she is all by herself in the woods. Cue the thick fog. A dark figure is behind her, she turns around and he's gone. She walks forward and is attacked by something but what is it?

Jeremy later finds her face up, neck bleeding, but she's still alive.

Jeremy carries Vicki to the party to get help. Everyone is shocked.




Matt (who is Vicki's brother) is tending to her when he looks up and catches a glimpse of Stefan's face as he slowly moves backward as if trying to hide from something. It's weird and you would think that it was Stefan who did this by his poorly hidden reaction.

Vicki is taken to the hospital where she is semi-conscious and tells Matt,
"It was a vampire."




Stefan races home and informs Zach that there was another attack and it wasn't him! Stefan only drinks blood from animals, not humans. So who the heck was it?

Stefan goes to his room and guess who appears? His evil brother, Damon, along with his little crow.

It was Damon who attacked Vicki.

"You left that girl alive tonight, very clumsy of you."~ Stefan



To which Damon replies, "That could be a problem.. for YOU."

Wow, these brothers don't really like each other AT all. Or so it seems.

Stefan is angry that he's there because it means he's going to messing things up for him.

Damon brings up Elena and mentions that she looks just like Katherine. He starts taunting Stefan about tasting her blood and Stefan loses his temper and hurls Damon and himself out the 2nd story window.

Stefan is on the ground and gets up (slightly injured but healing). Damon is relentless with his taunting and asks Stefan where his ring is.

The rings protect the brothers from sunlight. They can walk around during the day as long as they wear them.
Stefan panics, searching around for his ring. Damon swiped it and laughs as he gives it back to his little brother.

Stefan tells Damon, "Just stay away from Elena."

Stefan shows up later at Elena's house saying..
"I know that it's late, but I need to know that you're okay."




The scene ends with Elena inviting Stefan into her home to talk about the night's events. He's happy to be invited and walks on in.
