Downtown Vancouver

VANCOUVER IS A FUN CITY CHECK IT OUT !

Vancouver's downtown has a huge variety of Restaurants, Shopping, Parks and Attractions. Many people who live downtown do not need cars as most of their needs are with in a short walking distance through the safe but vibrant streets, the rapid transit system known as Skytrain also assist in moving people in and out of town.

Travel to Vancouver BC

Short on time take a tour to see the city

My Travel to Vancouver BC .

Downtown Vancouver . That's the best place to catch a tour to see the city. I got on the one that looked like a trolley with big windows. The driver knew all about Vancouver and made several stops for us to view the beautiful views from Stanley Park. The trolley is a great way to see Vancouver and get an idea of where you want to explore after the ride.

The view of the downtown apartment buildings from Stanley Park looks somewhat like Tokyo. It's a livable downtown full of office workers and those who make their home downtown.

It was early spring, with perfect weather; fog and rain in the morning and sun in the afternoon. With the beautiful afternoons I would take a walk and see the downtown. I would find a coffee shop or new restaurant or shop for gifts.

Not far from the hotel was Gastown an older part of the city with its cobble streets and steam clock, many tourist walking in and out of the shops and galleries.

My hotel was the Pan Pacific; it sits atop the cruise ship port. It is very beautiful; right on the water. My room was a single with views overlooking Stanley Park. From my room I could watch the sea planes take off and see Grouse Mountain ski runs all lit up for night skiing. The hotel shares the same building as the Trade and Convention Centre, Canada Place and the Cruiseship terminal.

The cruise ship terminal is in the same complex I could see then come and go from my hotel room or the outdoor walkways. And the patio off of the bar at lobby level made for some great quiet time. The pool was open and heated with a great view of the mountains. The spa at the hotel was first class and beautiful.

Cascadia Hotel And Suites Vancouver

Cascadia Hotel And Suites in downtown Vancouver

I will definitely stay here again shall I have the pleasure of returning to Vancouver.
Cascadia Hotel And Suites Vancouver
This is what I liked about this hotel:

1. Location: Not being very familiar with Vancouver, I trusted a friend who told me this location was central. I originally was looking for something closer to Robson but in hindsight, I thought this location was even better. It is only about 4 or 5 blocks from Robson. And in Vancouver, it is a joy to walk. It is also only 3 or 4 blocks to the Aquatic Centre where ferries and water taxis can take you to mulitple destinates including Granville Market.

One night, we were tired and wanted to bring food back. I took a walk down Davie St. (hotel is between Davie and Drake) and within 2 blocks in the colorful neighborhood known as the West End, I had my choice of Vietnamese, Japanese, Hamburgers, Greek, Chinese, etc. All this is close enough to be convenient but far enough to not be noise problem.

I think Vancouver's public transit works really well. And many of the buses we needed ran down Howe St. street which was the next street over.

2. Value: I found this hotel using TripAdvisor and booked it through United to take advantage of frequent flyer miles. But whatever site you use, the rates are very, very reasonable. For the location, the number of people one room can sleep (4 in our case), and the level of comfort, you cannot beat the price. And internet access is free! Oh and all-you-can-eat breakfast included!

3. Comfort: The room was big. It had 2 queen size beds, a desk for my laptop and a little sofa. It was me, my mom and my mother-in-law. We never felt cramped or uncomfortable. In the little kitchen, there is everything you need to make food in the room should you decide that over eating out. The beds were very comfortable and I slept well.

4. Breakfast: While it is by no means gourmet, it was very satisfying. Yogurt, granola, sausage, french toast on some days, pancake on others, potatoes. Oatmeal for us health nuts with fixins'. And some pastries and fruit. The eggs were delicious. I couldn't eat enough of their scrambled eggs!

My one suggestion for this hotel is that they hire another bellhop. The one bellhop I saw was working his butt off but while he was putting luggage away or delivering something, there was no one to help waiting guests.

Overall, I loved this hotel for its proximity to places we wanted to visit and access to public transit. I will definitely stay here again shall I have the pleasure of returning to Vancouver.

Shangri La Hotel Vancouver
The first Shangri-La hotel in North America was well worth waiting for. The hotel is beautiful and the rooms were nicely laid out and well appointed. The restaurant, Market, is fantastic - the food, service, ambiance were all delightful. It seems to be the new hot spot for the local trendsetters. Room service was prompt and efficient. The fitness center was one of the nicest that I have seen in all my travels, but the pool was not open at this time of year (but it looked great).
Only concern was the room key - they are RF cards - and it takes practice to use it in the elevators. Kudos to the hotel for embracing new technology!
