Major Markets with Las Vegas Organic Food

Las Vegas organic food options include 10 major markets.

PLUS: Some Smith's and Albertsons supermarkets also carry a limited-to-moderate selection of organic foods. But prices tend to be higher than the health food stores.

Whole Foods Market
2 +1 locations in Las Vegas.
Summerlin store (northwest Las Vegas valley) - full-service grocery: huge salad bar, hot entree bar, hot soups, made-to-order sandwiches, pizza, sushi, and desserts, plus beer, wine and cheese. Informal eating area.

Henderson/Green Valley store (southeast Las Vegas valley) - hosts a 50,000 square feet 'next generation' store that offers everything the other store does, PLUS:
  1. a tapas and wine bar.
  2. barbecue beef at the beef counter.
  3. doughtnuts made in the store.
  4. a chef in the seafood department.
  5. a shortcut chef cutting up produce for raw/cooked meals.
  6. one of the largest candy departments at any WF store.

Las Vegas Blvd (The Strip) store - opening soon in Building A at Town Square Las Vegas near I-15 & I-215.

Wild Oats Marketplace (now Whole Foods, too)
2 locations in Las Vegas.
Full-service grocery: well-stocked salad bar, hot soups, made-to-order sandwiches, pizza, sushi, juice bar, desserts, plus beer, wine and cheese. Informal eating area and children's area.

MORE about the Wild Oats - Whole Foods merger.

Trader Joe's
4 locations in Las Vegas.
Feature their own line of branded organic and gourmet products, plus beer, wine and cheese. A modest selection of take-out meals. No eating area.

Sunflower Market
2 locations in Las Vegas.
Full-service grocery with the motto: Serious Food...Silly Prices. Weekly Sale Flyers online. Beer, wine and cheese. Some take-out foods. Informal eating area.

Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Markets
11 locations in Las Vegas (as of Apr 26, 08).
Based on my visits to a couple of F&E stores, limited amount of organic food. Token amount from companies like Cascadian Farm and Amy's; most organic options seem to be F&E branded.

How much do you really know about Tesco and the Fresh & Easy stores?

Map Locations of Organic Food in Las Vegas

Finding Pure Foods in Sin City

Except for the Wynn Resort and Canyon Ranch Cafe (Venetian), these businesses all have locations on the East side and West side of Las Vegas.

Also on map: the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC), for people in town with conventions. Wynn, the Venetian and LVCC are the three markers in the center, just to the right of I-15.

Not on map:

Organic Breakfast & Lunch

Canyon Ranch Cafe
1 location.
A cafe inside the Venetian Resort, Hotel & Casino. Offers foods based on the same philosophy as the Canyon Ranch retreats in Arizona and Massachusetts. The cafe is small, so first-come, first-served. No reservations necessary.

Download a copy of the SpaClub menu (PDF file).

IMPORTANT NOTE: One street -- Sands -- changes names twice within a few blocks of The Strip. To the west, it's Spring Mountain. To the east, it's Twain.

Organic Comfort Foods

Pizza, Burgers & Fries

Rainbow's End Health Food Store
1 location.
A health food and cafe about 1/2 mile off The Strip on E. Sahara. Burgers, sandwiches, soups, salads, smoothies and more. Check out the menu.

Local: 702.248.DINE (3463)
Toll-free: 1.888.352.DINE

LasVegasRestaurants.com
Several restaurants on The Strip advertise organic ingredients. But each place interprets this phrase a little differently. Call ahead to find out exactly what they mean. (Restaurants on the list as of March 10, 2008: B&B Ristorante, Capital Grille, Hamada, Jasmine, Spago.)

Raw Vegan Organic Dining

Go Raw Cafe
2 locations.
Great food preparation and presentation. My favorite is The Lakes location on the West side; has a view overlooking private Lake Sahara. Try the ginger drink -- real ginger knocks my socks off. WOW!

Important Note: Chew the food well. Organic food is real food (i.e.: not commercially refined). Otherwise, your stomach may remind you.

Make Your Own Organic Alternatives in Las Vegas

Bars, Blenders and Suites...

A few years ago, it was tough finding much organic food in Vegas. Today, there's quite a few really great options available, even on The Strip. So these have become kind of irrelevant. But I present them here in case they can help in some way.

OPTION 1: Pick up Organic Food Bars: chocolate chip, vegan, Omega 3. MSRP: $2.69-$2.79 each. Trader Joe's: $1.99 each. Perfect for long days at a convention or trade show. WARNING: Don't leave them outside in the heat. They'll turn into pudding.

OPTION 2: Stay at a suites hotel, by the day or week. Stock your kitchen area with fresh organic produce and organic entrees. Cook on stove top or in microwave. (Personally, I don't like microwave ovens; I bring along a Cuisinart toaster oven, if I drive and plan to cook my own foods.) WARNING about weight sensors in hotel refrigerators.

OPTION 3: I also bring along a Tribest blender. Stock the room refrigerator with fresh organic fruits and vegetables, frozen organic berries, some Omega 3 oil. Trade Joe's has 64-oz bottles of organic juices: $3-$4 each. Blend fresh smoothies, protein drinks, green drinks.

Tribest Personal Blender PB-200 Super Convenience Pack

This blender is one of the best investments I've ever made. Easy to use and clean. Makes smoothies, protein drinks, salad dressing and more. Model PB-200 comes with additional cups and a grinding blade for making nut butters.

I can whip up a protein shake in less than 60 seconds. Drink out of the container cup with the sipping cover. A simple rinse in the sink cleans it up. Can get you out the door in a hurry. I take it with me whenever I travel !!

Pop It in the Toaster Oven: From Entrees to Desserts, More Than 250 Delectable, Healthy, and Convenient Recipes

Check out this book or something similar, if you're not used to cooking meals with a toaster oven. What's worked for me is: 1) small oven dish from Corning or Stoneware; 2) cooking temperature between 250-275 degrees (instead of typical 350-375); 3) cooking time about 2/3-3/4 of what's recommended on the frozen entree box. NOTE: I'm no expert at this. So be very careful, and consult an expert for more exact instructions.

Cuisinart TOB-50 Classic Toaster Oven Broiler, brushed stainless and black

I like this product for traveling and quick meal prep in a hotel/motel room. Cuisinart makes better models. And the broiling tray rusted out almost immediately. But for me, this is a reasonable balance between price and quality. Overall, the oven has held up well, and worked for me without any problems for quite a while.
