Why did you decide to become a Vegetarian?

I became a Vegetarian when I was 12, back in 1993, after a friend of mine told me about her visit to a slaughterhouse. Over the years I have learned about the health benefits and environmental benefits of being a vegetarian, but my original reason for becoming a vegetarian was because of the horror I felt at the way animals are treated. I would love to know what event prompted you to become a Vegetarian or a Vegan.

    I remember as a very small boy - yes I have a good memory! - asking my mother what the meat was on my plate. She said lamb - I cried and refused to eat it. However, mine was a meat eating family and I never turned veggie until I had a home of my own.
