How can I tell if I'm a Victim of Identity Theft?
To tell if your a Victim of Identity Theft you should always monitor your monthly account statements and check for any unauthorized charges or other fraudulent information.
You should also monitor your credit report atleast once a year to check for any Fraudulent activity such as accounts you didn't open, Debts you can't explain or Inqueries from company's you haven't contacted.
Monitoring these things will tell you if you are a Victim of Identity Theft.
Remember to Report any Fraudulent activity as soon as possible to the credit bureau so they can place a fraud alert on your report and stop any further damage.
Who should I contact if I become a Victim of Identity theft?
You should only need to contact one and that one will inform the others of the alert.
Contact the Fraud department of the company's that the fraudulent activity occurred. Make sure to follow up any calls with a letter sent certified mail return receipt requested so you can have a copy of what the company received and when.
Contact your local police department and file a report. You may need this to show proof to company's that a crime occurred.
File a Report with the Federal Trade commission, doing so will help track down and stop these thieves.
