What is Victus Games?

A gaming company formed by a few friends. The goal was to create a core gaming system that was streamlined and provided for much faster combat resolution than other available games. We wanted to create a game system to aid in our imaginative cinematic action games, not distract and detract from the story.

So far we've applied the game system to three separate roleplaying games. The games are Legends, Most Deadly Game (MDG or Modern Day Game), and
Children of the Ark (COTA).

Legends

Welcome to the world of Legends: A Victus Role-Playing Game.

In this version of the Victus Role Playing System, you play the part of extraordinary heroes, champions or evil overlords in a high fantasy medieval setting. For those familiar with other fantasy Roleplaying Games, Legends will be a refreshing break into the world of high fantasy. The Legendary power level of characters may frighten the potential game master at first, but after some review and thought about the flow of the game it should become natural to craft a wonderful game with the helpful feedback of the players. Legends is best run in a group of 1-6 players to give each character enough attention and time so that they may elevate the adventurous spirit of the tale spun by the game master. While other fantasy roleplaying games may focus on strategic miniature combat, or highly detailed critical hit tables and luck, Legends is driven by the creativity of it's players and game master. The more imaginative and extemporaneous Legend's player's strategies, plans and actions become, the more entertaining the game is for all. The system is designed not only to allow for improvised solutions, the game master is encouraged to reward this behavior through granting Legend Points or bonus experience. This may require a bit more improvisation on the part of the game master, as this skill may take some practice to hone. Here are a few examples of non-linear fantasy solutions:

  • Having trouble with a certain trap filled, monster strewn dungeon level, try flooding the entire dungeon by summoning a powerful water elemental to help reroute a local river into it's entrance.

  • Lost in the middle of a desert with little food or water? Perhaps you have an Alertness master in the party, how about making a Crack-Trip Alertness check to smell water droplets from an oasis over 5 miles away!

  • Falling down a dimensional pit that never ends after getting back handed by a Demon Lord? If you don't have a spell handy, perhaps you have gained Ability Enhancement:Avatar, Action Man:Bizzaro Speed, Attuned:Levitation, Dark Pact/Divine Power Hellish Form/Ascension, Regeneration/Shapeshift into a winged form, Inventor: Grapeller Launcher, Rocket boots, an A.C.E. up your sleeve, Legendary: Allegorical GM power, Lycanthrope: Winged form, Contingency Man: Grappling Hook and xbow, or perhaps a magic item.

Remember that as powerful as the characters become, they still should have connections to normal high fantasy townsfolk, friends, and family that help form the history of the fantasy personality. The background of each Legend is just as if not more important than all the powers that character has. How would your character react to different situations, has their response been colored by a tragic or compassion filled history? Is your character a hopeless romantic, a born comedian, or perhaps an ascetic monk?

MDG

Most Deadly Game

In this version of the Victus Role Playing System, you play the part of investigators from a modern day Earth like setting. So the world of MDG is like modern day earth with a twist of tequila, mummies, aliens, government conspiracies and hong kong action cinematic gun fights.

After chasing the suspect down a series of small alleyways he seemingly vanishes into mist before your very eyes. Any dreams of your private agency taking a few pictures of a lecherous husband or finding a lost dog for a couple of extra bucks was just shot to hell along with your partner. You hear sounds of scuffling boots going up the fire escape on an adjacent building, now's not the time to ponder. Reflexes take over and your .38 special is brought to bear on the bastard as a disturbing voice echoes from the shadows, "Mr. Slate I've brought you here for one reason, don't worry about your co-worker he was part of the set up and is in excellent health. I couldn't publicly approach you. You see, they are always watching. You have a very unique talent to ferret out secrets and I need that ability to help me find my daughter. Selena's been missing for three years now and I believe a government agency has taken her hostage for experiments. You're the only one who can find her, here's fifty thousand incentives to get your started"

It's been a few weeks and you've narrowed down the whereabouts of Cynthia to a tomb beneath an ancient Mayan pyramid where the cult she joined (and was later abducted by) now resides. It's a race against time, as you make your way down hall after stone hall, knocking out any cultist guards silently as you go. As you creep up from the shadows you overlook a horrifying sight. You can see Mr. Black's daughter's lifeless form twitching as her assassins exalt over her headless form. A rush of anger washes over you, to be replaced by cold and calculating righteous vengeance. You dive into the room with both 9mm's firing taking out cultist after cultist as you make your way to the man holding the blade. He motions his guardians to the side as he leans forwards, begins violently coughing and his visage transforms in a moment from euphoria to hellspawn. Fangs protrude from his mouth and his eyes go the color of dusk. What have you got yourself into now? Your last memories are of the hammering of your gun chambers as you take down one more cultist before the vampire fists struck you multiple times in the face.

Pain

Death

Thirst

Your sire's name is Solomon, and he's lead this cult of followers to provide sustenance to him for over a hundred years. He's revered as an immortal god. His decision to turn you was motivated by a need for additional knowledge about Mr. Black, and you're simply a tool. That's fine, you've considered yourself worth even less when you breathed, and it's better than being dead. You make your way out of the jungle with a new mission, a new benefactor, and a recently obtained allergy to sunlight.

COTA

Children of the Ark

Welcome to the world of Children of the Ark: A Victus Role-Playing Game.

In this version of the Victus Role Playing System, you play the part of explorers from the not-too distant future; people who were the unwilling victims of corporate genetic tampering in the early twenty first century. After the unlawful experimentation, you were forced into an ages-long cryo-sleep, and sent out to explore the far reaches of the galaxy in a slow, sub-light space ship. Your fate has left you immortal, alone, and stuck in the deep void of space ten thousand years from the time that you were born into. Humanity has passed you by; they have advanced and forgotten about their ancient travelers. The world that you will wake into is far different from the one you were forced from.

Do not worry, though. Before long, one of the dreaded Council warships that roam human space will respond to the recently activated archaic homing beacon lodged in the hull of your ship, and attempt to bring you ancient travelers back home with the help of its feared angels and their ships heavy plasma cannons.

Whether you want to go or not.
The World of COTA

The game is set in the far future, where humanity has spread over the vastness of our galaxy. Humankind is nominally ruled over by a mysterious group known as The Council, which almost never interferes in the general affairs of the galaxy. When they do choose to intervene, however, their presence is immediately felt, and is virtually unopposable.

Strange alien races abound, although humanity is dominant; at various points, armies of creatures from The Warp rampage forth to feast upon humankind, and are fought back in vicious battles. AIs help humanity manage affairs, although the occasional AI rebellion makes for difficult times.

There are other powerful beings out there. The Council are the ultimate boogymen; incredibly bizarre and amazing things have been attributed to them. The aliens from the Warp are strange creatures with odd powers. You yourself have some reality defying abilities and there are others

Science Fiction Roleplaying Games
Welcome sci-fi fan!
You've arrived at this page because you're interested in science fiction, roleplaying games, or fantastic action in surreal settings. Science fiction is a broad genre characterized by imagining future worlds and technology and using them as a setting for storytelling. The role playing games surveyed attempt to capture the essence of science fiction, and distill it into a framework to allow players to collaboratively imagine compelling stories.
Children of the Ark
In COTA players take the role of unwilling(?) test subjects from the near future (current time up to 60 or so years in the future). Immortality has been forced upon them, and before any repercussions could come against their captors they were shipped out into deep space in small sub-light simple shells of star ships. The players awaken nearly 10,000 years from the time of their captivity, and much about the galaxy has changed. Humanity has become the dominant force.
World of Warcraft Death Knights
Death Knights are the latest addition by Blizzard to the popular MMORPG World of Warcraft. You're probably reading this because much like myself, you're greedy for information on how to "trick out your ride", and by that I mean get the most out of your death knight character.
