Guitar Video Lessons

Why all guitarists should be learning from videos

Guitar video lessons have quickly become a very popular and accessible way for nearly anyone to start playing the guitar without needing a dedicated tutor. For anyone who wants to learn the guitar, but can't afford the cost of hiring a private teacher, guitar lesson videos can be a great path to take instead.

What Guitar Video Lessons Provide

The right videos are going to provide a method of viewing your guitar playing that is different than anything you've ever done before. Although it can be enjoyable trying to figure things out on your own, it can also be frustrating, and this can lead you to become less motivated to practice. By watching guitar lesson videos, you are able to see and here the correct way of playing something, so you can be sure you're not making any fundamental errors.

Various Types of Video Guitar Lessons

There are numerous different types of lessons available to you depending on what kind of guitar you are playing, how you want to practice, and what types of guitar playing you are dedicated to learning. For people who've never played the guitar before, videos teaching how to properly hold the guitar, and how to play simple chords, are most appropriate.

For slightly more experienced players, you might want to watch videos that show you how to play simple scales, such as pentatonic scales, in order that you can start learning how to improvise . You may even start to learn how to read the notes or tabs along with the videos.

More advanced videos are also available, teaching techniques like fast alternate picking, legato, and sweep picking.

Making Guitar Video Lessons Work for You

If you can find the right video guitar lessons, they will be very effective at showing you exactly how to play a particular song, scale, chord, or riff, by letting you watch a how a skilled player does it. It may not be as good as having an actual teacher, who can give criticism and advice, but it is still a lot better than just reading from a book, or trying to figure things out for yourself.

You can watch as many video guitar lessons as you like, but the only way you'll improve as a player is to practice. This means spending at least 20 minutes a day watching the videos and making sure that you don't progress to harder content until you have mastered the current video's lessons. To get the most out of using video guitar lessons, you'll have to use them the way they' were intended, and follow exactly what the teacher is showing you. If you can do this though, you can be sure that your guitar playing skills will increase dramatically.

What do you think?

Have your say on guitar video lessons

I think guitar video lessons are one of the best ways to go about learning the guitar. They enable you to watch a skilled guitarist as they explain exactly how you should do things. This is a major advantage over just reading it in a book, or hearing it on a cd. It is easy to misunderstand something you've read, or to miss hear from a recording, but with video you can be absolutely sure you're doing it right.
That being said, they can never fully replace a real guitar tutor, as a guitar tutor is able to give feedback, and answer questions as you go. They are however, in my opinion, the next best thing to a tutor, and should definately be seriously considered by anyone who want's to learn the guitar.
