Vienna, a UNESCO World Heritage Site

Vienna, the capital of Austria, was chosen as the city with the second highest quality of life in 2008 and despite its small size, in 2001 the city centre was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its numerous monuments and works of art like the beautiful Stephansdom or Saint Steve's Cathedral.

Vienna is a must place to visit for art, music and architecture lovers. It is also a place for the gourmet who finds pleasure in the traditional rich pastries and cakes found in Vienna. Although one of the most expensive cities in Europe, you can still find some Cheap Vienna accommodation.

Best time to Visit Vienna

Vienna has humid weather, with hot summers and extremely cold winters, which is why the best time to visit is in mid season when the weather is more agreeable. Also it is worth noting that during the summer some museums are closed and The Opera, the Viennese children's choir and the horse riding school take their holiday break.

Vienna Gardens:

There are 6700 ha of forest and 800 ha of public parks. There is something for everyone from cycling paths to "beaches" at the shores of the Danube to forests where you can enjoy the most beautiful flowers. The Volksgarten, the Burggarten and the Stadtpark are some of the three parks in the centre on the city. The Volksgarten is a symmetric park in a French style and it faces the Parliament house. The Burggarten is between the Opera and the Hofburg palace. In the Stadtpark you will be able to find your favourite composer as it is filled with fairy tale paths with statues of the most celebrated musicians.

If you are travelling with children the Schlobpark is ideal to keep the little ones amused with its toboggans, sand pits and swings.

Architecture :

In Vienna, you encounter all architectural styles of European history. Well-known highlights such as the Gothic St. Stephen's Cathedral and the Baroque Schönbrunn Palace draw thousands of visitors every year.

In Vienna you can find a variety of styles, from Romanesque and Baroque to classic, modern and even Art Nouveau buildings. The city has very tight building regulations as they aim to keep their architecture intact and in harmony with their numerous gardens. These regulations give the city the appearance of a "short city", because most of its buildings are relatively short, The Millennium tower with its 202 metres high is the tallest building in Vienna.

Also not to be missed are the splendid baroque Schönbrunn (Empress Sisi's former summer residence) and Belvedere Palaces and you can get a sense of the glory of the old empire by visiting St. Stephen's Cathedral

Vienna and its Musicians:
More famous composers have lived here than in any other city. In Vienna you will find many sites associated with composers like Beethoven and Mozart. You can visit their houses, graves and places where they composed and played their masterpieces.

If you are interested in furniture, Viennese furniture design from baroque to today is presented at the Imperial Furniture Depot Museum.
