Some of these will get so good at making their jewelry or designing that they will become collectibles.

What will you use? How about human hair?
The Jewelry Artisan is only limited by imagination. All manner of materials have been used to make jewelry from the earliest times. Wood, Bone, Shells, Porcelain and Glass. Even paper and plastic have been used to make jewelry. Between 1850 and 1870 some jewelry was even made from woven human hair! Some very nice beads have been made using silk threads. Some jewelry artist even sculpt and paint beads. And you thought you could only use precious metals and stones like gold and silver and rubies and diamonds. Some very interesting pieces have been made with art glass and metal clay. So whatever you do have fun!!! Many jewelry artist get started by designing their own jewelry to wear with certain clothing. A jewelry artist is an artist just as much as an oil painter or photograher. Only the medium is different. For some FREE Beading Patterns check here! And here is another neat site on Jewelry Making There is an expense to making jewelry which many people fail to consider! Even if you are making costume jewelry, it isn't cheap though it may vary from artisan to artisan. Some of you will use inexpensive beads while others will enjoy making your own beads and still others enjoy using gemstones and semi-precious stones and metals but whatever you use there is still an expense of time money and tools. Fire Mountain Gems is one great place for semi-precious stone and tools and all the newest pattern ideas! Another place for beautiful stones is Taogems Unique and Unusual Gemstones If you are going to make jewelry you will need tools! Jemco is a cool place to find your jewelry making tools.

Jewelry Designing
What is your Jewelry Style Most Like?
Here is a brief timeline antique and Jewelry styles
Georgian, 1714-1830
This period was so named for the four Georges ruling England. It was during this time that the French asymmetrical style was so popular. Many precious stones were used.
Victorian Period, 1837-1900
So called for Queen Victoria who just loved Jewelry. Many styles were created during this time.
Arts and Crafts, 1894-1923
A small group of craftsman rebelled against the mass produced Jewelry of the Industrial Revolution.
This period produced some very fine quality jewelry.
Art Nouveau, 1890-1915
Much of this Jewelry was done in silver with bright enamels. These pieces are considered works of Art!
Edwardian,1901-1914
This style was delicate and lacy with the use of quality diamonds and platinum. Some settings appeared almost invisible.
Art Deco, 1920-1935
Floral motifs, bright colors, curves and spirals were popular!
Retro, 1935-1949
This was true American Jewelry. Often made for holiwood stars it was romantic and large with hugh stone in rose gold usually.
Afraid of Internet Transactions?
Why do we offer Paypal and other Tips
How safe is it to shop online? Many people are still afraid of online transactions. I can remember our first online buying experience. It was a little scary and when we didn't hear from him in a few days we contacted him about our purchase. He had used a delivery confirmation and was able to put our minds at ease quickly. Since then we have made it a practice to always use a delivery confirmation no matter how small the order and we e-mail our buyers to let them know when we have received their payment and when their order ships.
Yes we offer Paypal!
Ok! But how safe is paypal. Well how safe is it to hand your credit card to a store clerk? Or how safe is it to send out checks in the mail? How safe is it to use the atm machine? Or how safe is it to walk in the neighborhood mall parking lot.
We have been using Paypal safely for the past 5 years without a problem. We never see any credit card information or other information than our buyers mailing address and then it is only available to us for completeing the transaction. Paypal goes to great lengths to keep all information safe and it is probably the safest method of payment available today. It does cost the seller to use it but doesn't cost the buyer anything.
Jewelry Designing through the years
What you might not know!
Jewelry Making and designing have been around since ancient times and styles change, but it seems the more styles change the more they stay the same. The ancient Greeks used delicate designs with an emphasis on workmanship while the Romans used heavier more elaborate designs and used more gold, silver and gems. Jewelry has been worn as a symbol of wealth but much of todays jewelry is worn just for fun. Do you think chains and earrings on men is something new. Think again! This type jewelry was popular during the Renaissance era.A Lost Art
The art of jewelry making and design was almost lost with mass production and machine made jewelry. Before 1830 all Jewelry making was considered handmade even though some simple tools were used. They were not mass produced and weren't cheap to make.
In recent years beading has become very popular and inexpensive costume jewelry especially if not mass produce has become much more popular. Beads and gems even if inexpensive can be seen on many items from clothing and purses to shoes and belts. If it can be decorated it can have beads and sparkling stones. For some neat examples of this see Unique Beads and Beading/Gifts. I think today's Jewelry artist are finding a much greater availability of unique artglass beads, chains, patterns and tools as well as gems and semi-precious stones making jewelry making more popular than ever.
