Come and Visit the Oregon Coast
How does walking on the beach, surfing, sailing, hunting for seashells, whale watching, fishing, shopping, finding glass floats, glass blowing, kite flying, horseback riding, geocaching, lighthouse exploring, hiking, jogging, or just sitting on the beach reading a good book and listening to the waves as they roll in sound to you?
If you have never visited the Oregon Coastline than you are missing out. It is a beautiful, wild and clean coastline. It has some tourists during the busy season, but the crowds are just not there.
I love to watch the surfers, and windsurfers!
Come see the Oregon Coast and you will not be disappointed!
There is also some great shops and outlet malls along the Oregon Coast.
If you travel through Kerby, Oregon on your way, I recommend a stop at a place called It's a Burl, it is well worth the stop.
I've listed each city below in alphabetical order, with links to hotels, chamber of commerce websites, and maps of how to get there.
If your looking for a specific city, the table of contents will get you there quickly!

- In a wooded park and towering above Astoria, Oregon's highest hill, the Astoria Column presents a spectacular view of the city and surrounding rivers, bay, forest, mountains and Pacific Ocean. The first words of most visitors are, "Oh, Wow!" The Astoria Column commemorates the westward sweep of discovery and migration. Built in 1926, it is 125 feet high and has 164 steps winding to the top.
Follow signs up 16th or 14th streets. - Oregon State Parks and Recreation: Rates
- Fort Stevens was the primary military defense installation in the three fort Harbor Defense System at the mouth of the Columbia River (Forts Canby and Columbia in Washington were the other two). The fort served for 84 years, beginning with the Civil War and closing at the end of World War II. Today, Fort Stevens has grown into a 3,700 acre park offering exploration of history, nature, and recreational opportunities.
- Astoria-Megler Bridge
- The Astoria-Megler Bridge, which was formally dedicated August 27, 1966, stretches 4.1 miles from Astoria, Oregon, across the mouth of the Columbia River, to Point Ellice, Washington. Its construction was an impressive feat. The bridge's main span is 1,232 feet in length, the longest "continuous truss" in the world.
- Columbia River Maritime Museum › Visitor Info › Astoria Warrenton Area Chamber of Commerce
- Explore marine transportation from the days of dugout canoes, through the age of sail, to the present. Watch a dramatic 12-minute film introducing the history of life and commerce on the Columbia River and including the dangerous work of the Bar and River Pilots. Walk the bridge of a World War II warship, marvel at the 44-foot motor lifeboat plowing through a wave in a rescue mission. Participate in four interactive and hands-on exhibits, including taking the helm in a tugboat wheelhouse. You can board the Lightship Columbia, a National Historic Landmark, that once guided ships to safety at the mouth of the Columbia River.
- Fort Clatsop National Memorial › Visitor Info › Astoria Warrenton Area Chamber of Commerce
- This is the site where the 33 member Lewis and Clark Expedition wintered from December 7, 1805, until March 23, 1806. The facility includes the reconstructed fort, a visitor center/museum, historical exhibits, canoe landing, spring and picnic area joined by trails through the wetlands and rainforest (young Sitka spruce and western hemlock) of the park. During the summer months, living history demonstrations depict fort activities.
- Flavel House Museum › Visitor Info › Astoria Warrenton Area Chamber of Commerce
- This historic 1885 Queen Anne Style Victorian Home and its period furnishings enable visitors to imagine what life was like in Astoria at the turn of the last century. Its decorative exterior, with hipped roof, balconies and verandas and its three-story octagon tower, has been restored to original form and the mansion's large rooms with their elegant woodwork are accented by furnishings and decorations of a century ago.
- Astoria Riverfront Trolley
- A restored 1914 trolley runs for 3 miles along the Columbia River in Astoria while the conductor provides interpretation of the area's history and attractions. Catch it anywhere on the riverfront between Basin and 36th streets. Ride as long as you like for $1. The round trip takes about 40 minutes.
- Maritime Memorial Park
- There are excellent places along the Astoria Waterfront to see the sweep and scope of the Columbia River. These include Maritime Memorial Park, the 6th Street Viewing Platform, 14th Street Pier and 17th Street Dock.
- Fort Astoria
- A small park with partial replica is located at the intersection of 15th and Exchange streets, where John Jacob Astor's fur traders originally constructed their fort. A mural recreates the vista from the Fort in 1813 as a backdrop to the recreated stockade building on the Fort Astoria Park property.
- Sports Fishing
- The world famous Columbia River draws tens of thousands of sport anglers each year in pursuit of its salmon, steelhead and sturgeon. Once revered for the largest return of pacific salmon in the world, it remains one of the strongest sportfisheries in the Northwest. Annually, well over one million salmon and steelhead enter the Columbia River and are pursued by anglers from around the world. Columbia River fishing can offer some of the most exciting action imaginable by any angler.
- Movie Tours
- Movies filmed around Astoria include: Kindergarten Cop, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III, Short Circuit, Come See The Paradise and Free Willy. But the movie that has the largest following among our visitors is The Goonies. Get a guide to movie locations at the Astoria Chamber, Warrenton Visitor Center, Heritage Museum or Flavel House Museum for $2. Download a simplified version of the booklet here [94.13KB].

Where to stay in Cannon Beach
Nestled between the Pacific Ocean and the Coast Mountain Range, rests Cannon Beach
The city is famed for its forested headlands, towering monoliths and miles of pristine, sandy beaches.
Haystack Rock is a famous landmark. Other attractions readily reached from town include Ecola State Park, Indian and Crecent Beaches, the Bird Rocks and Silver Point. Tillamook Rock Lighthouse is visible out to sea, amidst vistas of waves and seasonal populations of birds. Miles of beach, wooded areas, hiking trails, and parks offer plenty of healthy diversions in the great outdoors.

We stayed at the Driftwood shores, and I would definately recommend it to anyone. Beautiful and modern. It sits right on the beach, has it's own restaurant with great food and prices. Hot tub, pool, friendly staff. Each deck overlooks the ocean and beach, not sure there is a bad view!

Some boat docks in Old town by Mo's, another great place to eat.

(Ok, we did add the sumptuous food, luxurious lodging, tantalizing shops, and fresh learning opportunities.)
- Glass Floats - Finders Keepers!
- Finders Keepers: Sand, Fire, Glass . . It's An Art!
In days gone by, visitors searching Oregon's beaches often found treasures from the east: blown glass floats, in intriguing shades of green and blue. Used by Japanese fishing crews to float their nets, these spheres were as small as two inches (5 cm) or as large as two feet (.6 m). They were hoarded, polished and adored, the ultimate find for a dedicated beachcomber.
Now that fishing vessels around the world use buoyant plastic, a blown glass float is a rare find - except on the beaches of Lincoln City, where more than 2,000 of them are found each winter, a few placed on the beach each day the ocean permits it. We put out the number of floats reflected by the year - so 2001 in 2001, 2002 in 2002, etc.... - About Lincoln City

3br - Lovely and rustic oregon coast cabin beach rental
Pearl Street in Netarts is where you'll find our cabin...it is an old street that meanders along a bluff just above picturesque Netarts Bay - one of the Oregon Coast's true hidden gems. Our family has owned this very special place since 1992 and we have never stopped trying to improve it, though we have only recently decided to start renting it. We are confident that you will love it as much as we do.
When you arrive you will smell the ocean and feel the salt air. This lovely private home is across the street from the water - all the access and spectacular views WITHOUT the "beachfront" rates! You will have access to unlimited highspeed wireless internet and free long distance calls within the US. Bring your iPod because we are wired (and wireless) for it!
The home is rustic and built with the highest quality construction in every detail. It has 3 bedrooms, 3 full baths, and a 3- side wrap- around deck on the ground floor (with an outdoor shower and gas grill on the private

- Wow! Fantastic lens.... I've been to the Oregon Coast many times as a child. It was one of our favorite places to spend time on our way north to Seattle to visit family. We've stayed in Astoria, visited the Tillamook Cheese Factory, always went to Sea Lion Caves, and even camped at one of the beautiful Oregon coast campgrounds. Great information and a 5 Star rating!
