Every World Youth Day has had a theme.
The theme for the 26th World Youth Day International celebration - Madrid (Spain), 16-21 August 2011 is "Rooted and built up in Jesus Christ, firm in the faith" (cf Col 2:7).

Anniversary - Sydney 2008

What impact did World Youth Day in Sydney have?
A Zenit article reports "Seven out of 10 young people who attended World Youth Day in Sydney last year rated it as one of the best experiences in their life. This was one of the findings of a survey carried out to measure the impact of the event."

Pilgrimages are already starting to be planned
Having been on two World Youth Days I reflect on how different my experience was for each of them.
In 2000, the WYD concept was very new to me and I was one of a group from Wagga who then travelled with the group from Melbourne to the Holy Lands and Rome.
In 2008 I was able to form a group with my family and a number of friends to travel from Wagga to Sydney.
Are you a leader, or a group member? Have you had experience with World Youth Day or are you new to what this is about? Have you been to Spain or will this be your first time?
I have done a quick search for World Youth Day 2011 and found these pilgrimage organisers. I am unable to endorse them as I have not used their servcies but I hope the information they provide will be useful for comparing with your current organisers.

How to Prepare for WYD 2011

- Rates will be available in Fall of 2009. Rates will depend on your group's size, level of services selected (Hotel Category), length of the itinerary and on your departure airport. World Youth Day departures are available for groups of 15 or more only. Unsold group space may be available for individual bookings after January 1, 2011. Plans for the Handover of the WYD Cross & Icon, Rome Palm Sunday 2009
The Archdiocese of Sydney planning is underway for the Handover of the WYD Cross and Icon which will take place in Rome on Palm Sunday, 5 April 2009.
As was the case when Australia received the Cross and Icon from Cologne in 2006, a delegation comprising representatives of the Australian dioceses and others involved in WYD08 will be present in Rome for the Handover ceremony to Madrid on Palm Sunday.
