Walking is our most basic and natural form of transportation. It's a relaxing and enjoyable way to improve your health and experience your community. It is simple and it's free. Most people can find places to walk at work or in their communities. It is a natural motion that requires little skill or athletic ability and is therefore the ideal exercise for many people. Daily walking can strengthen the heart, help in weight control, build endurance and reduce mental stress.

Walking is less vigorous than running. Beginners who have been previously sedentary or those with health problems should start exercise programs by walking . Walking is really one of the best things you can do while you are pregnant. In fact, pregnant women can do much more than walk but it is all based on your personal workout routine.

- Walk at least 30 mins three times a week
- Start by walking a leisurely pace
- Then increase the pace as your get more fit
- Walk with friends or family to stay motivated

One of the best ways you can reduce traffic congestion, air and noise pollution is to leave the car at home for short distance trips and walk instead.

Brisk walking one mile in 15 minutes burns just about the same number of calories as jogging an equal distance in 8 1/2 minutes. In weight-bearing activities like walking, heavier individuals will burn more calories than lighter persons. Brisk walking was defined as walking at 3.5 mph.
