Tips and Information for your Walt Disney World Resort vacation in June 2012

There are some things going on at Walt Disney World Resort and theme parks in June that you need to know about. We'll make sure you have all the information you need concerning Walt Disney World Theme Park crowd levels, promotions, ride closures, refurbishments, and special events.

Tip: Florida gets more lightning than any other state. Check your weather report daily and plan to do the attractions - like Test Track & Lights, Motors, Action! - before the storms roll in. The water parks may close if lightning rolls in and sticks around. They'll stay open - but call everyone out of the water temporarily - if the storms are expected to pass quickly.

Crowd levels during your June 2012 trip to Walt Disney World

How crowded will the Disney World Theme Parks be this June?

1. You will see the Disney Theme Parks grow busier and more crowded with each week in June as schools across the nation let out for summer vacation. June is still less crowded than July and the early part of the month can be quite manageable, as far as crowds are concerned.

2. 2012 Star Wars Weekends - Disney's Hollywood Studios (information below). (Friday - Sundays) - May 18- 20 / May 25 - 27 / June 1-3 / June 8 - 10, 2012. This fun event features celebrity appearances and great Star Wars themed events and activities, generally near the Star Tours attraction. There is no extra charge - it is included in the cost of admission. Non-Star Wars fans may prefer to visit Disney's Hollywood Studios on a weekday.

3. Avoid Extra Magic Hours! We recommend that everyone avoid the Extra Magic Hours during the busy summer season. Disney has 33,000 hotel rooms and no one goes to Disney alone - that means too many people are pointed in the same direction at the same time. You'll have a much nicer time by going to a less busy park. This is doubly important if you are not staying at a Disney resort - you don't want to get to the theme park and find a bunch of Disney guests in line in front of you. TIP: Make dining reservations right away.

4.Fantasmic! (Disney's Hollywood Studios) -This great show is being offered every night in June except June 6 & 14, 2012. It is a very popular show but you may have to line up 70 minutes prior to the show to get in. You'll have to decide whether a 25 minute show is worth that much of a time commitment. TIP: If you do decide to go, don't schedule a "sit-down" dinner. Part of the group can hold places in line while one or more go get counter-service food for the group to eat while you wait, making good use of your waiting time. Catalina Eddie's & Rosie's All-American Café are nearby. TIP: Disney may offer add a second performance on certain nights; if they do, the second show is always much less crowded than the first. Warning: This show is excellent but it does feature villains for a good 8-10 minutes. The scene is fairly intense and can be frightening to small children.

5. Main Street Electrical Parade (Magic Kingdom) - This wonderful classic nighttime parade is being offered every night in June. TIP: If the parade is offered twice in the same evening, the crowds will be much lower during the second parade. .

6. A good touring plan will help you manage crowds so that you can see and do all the things that are important to you.

Disney World Vacation Tip...

Avoid character breakfasts. The Disney theme parks are at their least crowded for the first 1-to-2 hours after park opening. It makes more sense to enjoy the parks at their least crowded and then do a character lunch or dinner when you're ready for a break and ready to get out of the heat and crowds. If you must do a breakfast, try to get the last possible seating and treat it like a brunch.

Concert Schedule - To Be Announced

3. 2012 Star Wars weekends at Disney's Hollywood Studios. (Friday - Sundays) - May 18 - 20 / May 25 - 27 / June 1 - 3 / June 8 - 10, 2012. See Star Wars characters, autograph sessions, Legends of the Force motorcade, Stars of the Saga Q&A, Hyperspace Hoopla, and more. This event is included in the cost of your Walt Disney World Resort theme park admission. Fun event for Star Wars fans. Most of the activities occur near the Star Tours attraction but this event does draw extra people. You may prefer to visit on Disney's Hollywood Studios a weekday if you are not participating in this event.
