Online Martial Arts Lessons-Online Martial Arts Lessons Free Of Charge

There are many sites and pages you can visit that offer free online martial arts lessons. This is a bit different however. This page is for people who can't afford to throw a lot of money away on an instructor. It is also a good way for someone who is preparing to take Martial Arts to start his training. Many Martial Arts teach the union between Mind-Body-Spirit. For this reason I have made them into three sections. Mind will cover strategy and ways of attack as well as the necessity to study many arts. Body will cover warming up as well as different combat techniques. Spirit will cover that which most American Dojo's deny. Take caution not to deny the Spirit because in the end it is Spirit that wins the fight and not advanced technique. Spirit will teach you how to let your techniques become second nature so you can flow in a real combat scenario.

You will find lots of good free information here. If you want to really learn self defense and understand what it really means to take care of yourself in a street fight than I recommend getting The How To Fight And Win Self Defense Guide. It's a true self-defense guide that explains why most traditional approaches to martial arts don't work. I am an advocate of learning to fight on your own and this guide is perfect for those looking to do the same thing. Martial arts lessons will cost you thousands of dollars by the time you are actually proficient in them. I recommend getting this guide and studying what I have to offer and I assure you that you will be able to defend yourself better than many of the martial artists out there.

Solo Practice

There are many ways to practice. Many people have trouble practicing alone because they don't know where to start or they don't think they can. If you have to practice alone, I recommend getting either, a heavy bag, a punching board, or a finding a tree. If you use a tree you should use hand wraps, gloves, or tie/tape some pillows or blankets to the trunk so you don't hurt your hands. In addition to a tree you can also use the the sides of doorways or a solid concrete wall. Always wear protective gear to keep your hands from getting shredded.

I also recommend that if you do practice alone, you practice plenty of shadow boxing. Shadow boxing is like doing an improvisational Kata. In both you imagine an opponent in front of you and practice fighting them. When you shadow box, go for 3 minute rounds with 1 minute rests. Try to go 3-5 rounds like a real MMA fight. You will want to go beyond 5 rounds eventually. Always be sure to watch your footwork, as it is the most neglected aspect of shadow boxing.

Strategy-Trapping Combinations

Trapping is one of the 4 ranges of combat. It involves "trapping" an opponent by using his punches and energy against him. There are 2 types of energy, pushing and pulling. Either one can be quite effective in taking down your opponent. These next 4 videos cover various trapping techniques.

Attributes In All Arts

Unlike most people I am not going to try and convince you to take a certain type of Martial Art. Nor am I going to talk about a superior school or how fast you can learn. When one thinks and speaks of these things he takes steps away from the path of Martial Arts. It is not about how fast you learn or whether one art can defeat another.

When most people are looking to choose the right Martial Art they usually do it based on how fast they can learn it. Often the student will learn some fancy moves quickly but not take the time to develop power within these moves. Understand that flashy moves will do you know good in combat if they are not done with complete resolve. You could learn any style but if you do not have the inner essence that it takes to make any technique effective you will probably lose composure in a fight.

Attributes flow through all Martial Arts and they should be trained because no matter what style you study if you don't have attributes you will have no practical use for what you know. Your martial art would be as useful as someone doing ballet to fight an enemy. Think of it this way, Many styles of guitar playing exist but if the players in those genre didn't develop fast fingers, strong hands, and callouses than they still wouldn't be able to perform. They could play any style and it would sound bad. However if the player takes steps to improve attributes than the player can play any style they choose and they will learn much faster as well

So what attributes should we train for? While that answer is very long, many attributes fall into these 5 categories.

Balance
One of the most important things in life is balance. If you don't have balance you will over eat or under eat or you will do these with only half of your being. This is not just being able to stand on one foot. Balance is being able to be centered despite chaotic events and dramatic situations in life. Balance is essential for physical, mental, and spiritual well being. Learn not to be obsessed with one thing. Balance out your study of Martial Arts with the study of another art form. Study poetry, or painting or guitar. Perhaps you like weaponry. Well to stay balance and further understand your chosen weapon, learn other weapons. If you want to see why a Sword is both strong and weak study the bo staff. If you study a fast weapon than study a slow weapon. You will develop better senses of timing and rhythm and will eventually be able to fight with any weapon.

Quickness
Not to be confused with speed, quickness is how fast you can respond to any given event. While speed is the overall rate at which someone can do things, it is not the end all be all. If your always fast the opponent will learn to time his attack different and your fast moves will be useless. If however you are quick, you can appear slow and then strike lighting from the unknown. Enemies cannot see your moves coming because you do not flaunt your speed. Quickness is a burst of speed that is hard to see coming unless you yourself have developed it.

Agility
Agility encompasses flexibilty. This is why stretching is important. IF you plan on doing lots of kicks and punches when you choose your martial art, than you will have to be able to contort the body in new positions. Agility is the same as being like water, the most agile substance on the planet. Water can take any shape, yet it wears down defenses over time. The Grand canyon is so great because Water created it. Something seemingly so weak has an extraordinary amount of power. An agile mind is very important. With an agile mind like water, you can appear to only drip, but when a crisis comes you can become a Tsunami.

Rhythm
Rhythm is very important and involves good timing. rhythm is one of the main reasons to study other arts. If you can understand different rhythms on piano or any musical instrument you will understand the rhythm of combat better. Combat does not end in a single punch just as a song does not end in a single note. Developing rhythm means perfecting your timing. even if your a very slow person, you can defeat the fastest Martial Artist with a properly timed punch. Sometimes a fight moves quickly other times slowly. Learn how to function properly within both frames of combat.

Power
Power should not be confused with strength. Bruce Lee defined strength as "The ability of the body to exert great force." He considered Power to be "the ability to release an explosive force to produce a quick, sudden movement to the body with maximum effort. Power involves quickness and strength working together. If you are strong but slow than your only chance at winning is through properly timed punches, however this will only get you so far. The superior martial artist will develop Power and become both fast and strong. He will further his training by using balance to practice Agility and proper rhythm and timing. Too much focus on one attribute leaves you open for weak spots. If the enemy can find your weak spot than you are done for.
