How To Make Washcloth Slippers

Washcloth slippers make a wonderful gift for those who do a lot of traveling, as they take up almost no space in a suitcase. In addition, they make great bazaar or flea market items, as well as super gifts for those in nursing homes.

Easy To Make Washcloth Slippers

Washcloth slippers make a wonderful gift for those who do a lot of traveling, as they take up almost no space in a suitcase.  In addition, they make great bazaar or flea market items.  Check the stores for "bundles" of washcloths, which would be much cheaper to buy - however, be sure that they come in sets of two per color, if the bundles aren't all one color.

MATERIALS NEEDED:

Two washcloths; matching thread; elastic; ribbon or rickrack for trim

Fold each washcloth in half and sew the ends together, leaving about 1 1/2" open at the top edges.  Fold the top edge to the outside and stitch around about 1/2" from the top.

Put elastic through the seam to keep the slippers on the foot and sew a bow of matching or contrasting ribbon on the front of the shoes.

For men's slippers, stitch rickrack around the top and leave off the ribbon.

NOTE:  The "washcloth" slippers make great gifts to give to nursing home patients or someone who will be going into the hospital; however you would need to sew a "sole" of gripper fabric to the bottom of the slippers so they won't be slippery and cause the patient to slip down.
