The Washington Redskins have won 14 games twice in a season, in 1983 and 1991. This is second place all time.
The Redskins scored 541 points in 1983, an NFL record that wasn't surpassed until the 1998 season, and is still second all time.
The Washington Redskins scored 72 points against the New York Giants on Nov. 27, 1966 is the most points ever scored by an NFL team in a regular season game and the 72 to 41 score amounted to 113 points and the highest scoring game ever in NFL history. The second half scoring for the game amounted to 65 points, the second highest point total for second half scoring and the third highest total scoring in any half in NFL history. The Redskins 10 touchdowns are the most by a team in a single game and the 16 total touchdowns are the most combined for a game. The Redskins 9 PATs is the second most all time for a single game and the 14 combined is the most ever in a game.
The Redskins led the league in field goals for 8 seasons, 1945, 1956, 1971, 1976-77, 1979, 1982, 1992. Only the Green Bay Packers have ever led more. Their 49 field goals attempted in 1971 is the most ever attempted in a single season.
The Redskins and Bears attempted an NFL record 11 field goals on Nov. 14, 1971 and the Redskins and Giants tied that mark on Nov. 14, 1976.
The Redskins 28 consecutive games, from 1988 to 1990, scoring a field goal is third all time.
The Redskins set a record for most first downs in a game with 39 in a game against Detroit on Nov. 4, 1990. They also set a record by not allowing a single first down against the N.Y. Giants on Sept. 27, 1942.
The Washington Redskins have led the league in passing 8 times, in 1938, 1940, 1944, 1947-48, 1967, 1974, 1989. Only the San Diego Chargers have led more times. The Redskins led the league in completion percentage 11 times, in 1937, 1939-1940, 1942-45, 1947-48, 1969-1970, second only to the San Francisco 49ers. Their 4 straight years from 1942-45 is the second longest streak.
The Washington Redskins led the league in punting average 6 times, in 1940-43, 1945, 1958. Second only to the Denver Broncos. Their four consecutive years from 1940-43 is an NFL record.
The Redskins 9 sacks allowed in 1991 is the third fewest allowed in a season.
Interesting Facts
Original Franchise Location/Name: The Redskins franchise began in 1932 in Boston, Massachusetts. The team used the nickname "Braves." The team became known as the "Redskins" in 1933 and moved to Washington, D.C. in 1937.
First Draft Choice: Riley Smith, B, Alabama was selected second overall in the NFL's first-ever draft in 1936.
First Regular-Season Game: A 14-0 loss to the Brooklyn Dodgers, 10/2/32.
First Winning Season: 1936 (7-5-0).
First Playoff Appearance: A 21-6 loss to the Green Bay Packers in the 1936 NFL Championship Game played at the Polo Grounds in New York, 12/13/36.
First All-League Players: T Turk Edwards, 1932.
First Redskins Elected to Hall of Fame: QB Sammy Baugh and Founder/Administrator George Preston Marshall, charter members, 1963.
First to Rush 200 Yards in a Game: Cliff Battles, 215 yards vs. New York Giants, 10/8/33 was the first player in NFL history to rush for 200 yards in a single game.
First 1,000-Yard Rusher: Larry Brown, 1,125 yards (1970).
First to Pass 400 Yards in a Game: Sammy Baugh, 446 yards vs. Boston Yanks, 10/31/48.
Most Yards Rushing, Career: John Riggins, 7,472 yards, (1976-1979, 1981-1985).
Most Yards Passing, Career: Joe Theismann, 25,206 yards, (1974-1985).
Most Receptions, Career: Art Monk, 888 receptions (1980-1993).
All-Time Leading Scorer: Mark Moseley, 1,206 points, (1974-1986).
It's A Fact: On 10/16/38, halfback Andy Farkas ran the wrong way and was tackled for a safety. Farkas, however, went from goat to hero when he led the Redskins to a 7-5 comeback win over the Detroit Lions.
Longest Interception Return: Barry Wilburn's 100-yard return vs. the Minnesota Vikings, 12
