When the Lakers won their last NBA title against the Boston Celtics back in 1987 I was only 6 years old, but I grew up with a Grandfather and a best friend's Dad that absolutely worshiped the Showtime Lakers lead by Magic Johnson and despised Larry Bird's Celtics.

Growing up in this environment I learn to be a Lakers4Life type fan, routing for the Lakers whether they were up or down, with Magic until 92 and his brief comeback in 96 to the post Showtime years from Nick Van Exel to Shaq and Kobe.

With this being said, the 2008 NBA Finals fantasy come to for all Lakers and Celtics fans, no way am I missing a series like this!

In a classic match up of the NBA's #1 seeds in both conferences, the Lakers and Celtics come into the NBA finals as the two best teams in the NBA and the best possible match up of East and West which usually hasn't been the case over the last few years, especially last year when the San Antonio Spurs destroyed LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers in embarrassing fashion sweeping King James Cavs in four games.

This 2008 NBA finals is a different story altogether, first of all you have the best rivalry in sports history which can be dated back to almost the creation of the league. These two teams have battled 10 times prior to this season's finals with the Celtics winning 8, but the Lakers taking the last two back in the 80s with Magic Johnson's Showtime Lakers.

Then you have plot lines galore with Kobe Bryant requesting a trade at the beginning of the season, becoming the MVP for the first time, the Lakers pulling off the best trade in years getting Pau Gasol for virtually nothing and then getting back to the finals after four years of forgettable seasons.

On the Celtics side you have a team that has had a terrible basketball team ever since the retirement of Larry Bird in the early 90s, then they make two blockbuster trades to get Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett which instantly made them title contenders. After an amazing season of dominance the Celtics become the team to beat in the East, but struggled all through the playoffs to get to the finals to face their arch rivals in the Los Angeles Lakers.

With of the struggle and rebirth of these two franchises back into the two best teams in the NBA, we are all in for a treat when they take the floor against each other for the first time in 21 years!
