High Gas Prices

Until the new technologies are up and running there are ways to save on gas.

First, be aware of how you drive. You can change your fuel efficiency very easily just by being conscious of how you are driving. That means no "jack rabbit" starts (squealing your tires isn't cool anymore anyway so save your tires). Also, when you see a traffic signal ahead that you know you will have to stop at, immediately let off the gas and coast. This will also save on your brake pads.

Don't speed. Speeding burns fuel and one speeding ticket is about the cost of a tank of gas!

Plan out your trips so that you avoid backtracking and unnecessary stops.

Fill your tank when it is cool outside. Gas expands when it is warm so you actually get less of it when you fill up on a hot day.

Consider walking or biking if the place you want to go to is close. It will save gas and improve your fitness level.

Another thing to consider is buying a motorcycle or a scooter for short trips around town. They are much more economical than a car (even a hybrid) and aren't very expensive, especially if you can pick up a used one.
