Increasing your traffic with free or very low cost tools and ideas.

I am going to teach you a few of the tricks that I have learned over the past few months, on how to increase the flow of traffic to your online site, whether it be a personal website or an online store or auction.  Most of these things I have learned are free or very low cost, and more than worth the minor cost.  I have increased the traffic to my eBay store Sandy's Collectibles and More and have increased my sales considerably, bringing in new customers and repeat customers alike. 

I am going to give you  the URL's for some sites that offer free advertising for your website or your auctions.  Plus, I am going to make available to you, a couple of great PDF downloadable ebooks that are chock full of great ideas.  Also, give you the opportunity to learn some very basic HTML to create clickable banners and buttons to put on advertising spots and your website. 

If you are ambitious, and serious about increasing your traffic and making more money, then this lens is for you.  If you are lazy and want it all to come to you without any work on your part, then you can stop reading right now.  The choice is yours.

Great Marketing Tool Ebooks 

Using MySpace, HTML,and Free Advertising To Your Advantage

Here, I am offering you a couple of great marketing and advertising tools that used to come in the form of a downloadable PDF file (ebook), but can now be purchased on cd at Danna Crawfords website or ebay store. Add your store listings to Google for free!! 

Have your listings found in the google searches the easy way!

One very simple way to get your ebay store listings found on the internet is by putting them on Froogle/Google. This is a very simple process, and it is FREE!!! That is my favorite word!!! All you need to do is type in froogle in your google search box. There is a Google store connector that you need to download. From here, you just click and download all of your items from your store into the store connector. When someone types in an item that you carry in your store, your items will be shown closer to the top of the search page, or in some cases, at the very top!!! I have had mine come up as a comparison with other items identical to mine, but mine was the lowest price. I cannot imagine anyone not using this free advertising tool. It would be totally foolish not to take advantage of all of the free networking and advertising available to online store owners. Check this out and see the difference it makes.

Building Your eBay Traffic The Smart Way by Joseph T. Sinclair 

Highly recommended reading for all eBayers and eBay store owners.

I cannot say enough about this book. The author takes you through every aspect of advertising, datafeeds, cross-selling and more! I have incorporated several of his suggestions, one being Froogle/Google, and it has become my #2 referring Domain to my ebay store!!! When I do a search with my store name, I come up several times on the first 2 pages of Google. This is amazing. Alot of his suggestions are free or very low cost. Some are more expensive, but you can pick and choose what fits your budget best. I keep this book close to me when I am brainstorming for ideas for marketing, and refer to it over and over again. You will love this book, and it is available on Amazon.com. It is a must have for all serious sellers.

Writing An Ebook To Bring Traffic To Your Website 

It's as easy as 1-2-3!

You don't have to be a journalism expert or a well known author to write an ebook. Ebooks are written every day, about subjects that are informative, instructional or just plain fun. All of the ebooks you see offered above were written by women who are just plain "Moms", who had an idea and went with it. The great thing about writing an ebook, whether it be about taking terrific photos, a cookbook of Mom's favorite recipes, to grooming your dog properly, you can write about what you know. I wrote the "Good Things Come In Great Packages - A Guide to Packing and Shipping Glassware, because I had so many of my customers complain that they had received glass items not well packaged and damaged in transit from other dealers. By the feedback that I was getting, I figured I must be doing something right when I am packing, so I decided to write about it. GET YOUR ONLINE STORE SEEN!!! 

Utilize all the free tools that are available to you!

Have you ever heard of Sellerscircle??? This is great place to join. It is a community of people who want their online stores to be seen and more traffic sent their way. Sellerscircle.com lets you add all of your ebay listings to your page. You can also join groups (I joined the Nebraska sellers group), you can invite friends (their friends see what you have in your store)and you can blog about your store or anything else you want.

Another great place that is similar is Auctionrssfeed.com. All of your auctions are put on a RSS feed, so that everytime your store is updated, the RSS feed picks up the new items automatically. All of these sites help get your online store out to the search engines, which is the goal with onine marketing. It is ALL FREE!! Why spend tons of money on pay per click, when you can get the same results for free??? Keep checking back here or bookmark my lens, as I will be adding more free marketing ideas and sites as I find them. Trust me, they work. I have noticed the increase when I check my ebay traffic reports, and many of my visitors are from these sites. All it takes is a little time and a little effort. It is worth it if you want to be successful. Isn't that our goal???

What a great way to advertise!

If you really want to get your online store or website noticed, you have to put it out in front of the public. Just like the brick and mortar store hangs a sign outside to let customers know what they are selling, you should "hang" your sign everywhere you can on the internet. Do banner exchanges with networking friends on MySpace, join Reallysmartdeals and get up to 20 banners seen free of charge, put banners on your ME page on ebay that go to a specific category in your store. Be creative! There are all sorts of ideas and places to leave your mark! Add it to your signature on your business emails. A colorful and catchy banner is one of the best ways to draw attention to your website or online store. Check the links that I have added for sites that offer free bannermaking. It takes less than 5 minutes to make a banner, and the HTML code is written for you. All you have to do is substitute your web address in the correct spot, right click, select and copy. Save it in a folder on your computer so that you have easy access to it. Banners can be made to advertise special sales, free offers, a specific category in your store, a specific item or the home page to your store. Make them and use them as much as possible. The more your banners are seen, the more your name will be recognized.

This wonderful site allows you to make a banner with animation. You have the ability to put your store name, and two other sentences that appear one after the other. There are several designs with graphics already made, so all you have to do is add the words. Give it a try!These tips are straight from the Addesignter website:

Following these basic guidelines can dramatically increase your banner ads' effectiveness (and the rate at which they are clicked):

1. Be professional: People are going to get their first impressions of your website based on your banner ad, so you need to be certain that it presents you in the best possible manner. This means you should be extra careful that all your spelling and grammar are correct. Also, select font sizes, styles and colors that maximize your ad's readability. If your banner ad is of poor quality, people will assume your website is too.

2. Ask for an action: What do you want people who see your banner ad to do? Most likely, first and foremost, you want them to simply click on it, so be sure your ad says so. Because this is so important, most of the banner ad designs already have a "call to action" (such as "Click Now") built in.

3. Keep it simple: Your banner ad may only have a few seconds to make its impact on the viewer. As a result, it must be able to convey your message in a small amount of time. By keeping your ad's concept and wording clear and concise, you increase the likelihood that the viewer will actually get your message. Remember, if the viewer can't easily and quickly understand what your banner ad is saying, it is unlikely he/she will click on it. Use the fewest (and most simple) words you can. 4. Use words that raise attention or emotion: Words like "free", "special offer", "secrets", etc. help grab the viewer's attention and increase his/her curiosity in your offer. Try this technique: pretend you are reading your banner ad's text for the first time: would YOU be interested in or excited about what it offers? If not, then most people probably wouldn't be either.

5. Emphasize benefits, not features: What is the difference between a "benefit" and a "feature"? In simple terms, a "feature" is a service or an aspect of a service that you offer. A "benefit" is the actual impact it has on your customer. Let's say your site offers income tax services. Which of these is more enticing: "We speciallize in finding deductions" (a feature) or "Pay less tax" (the benefit)? Advertisers realized long ago that more than anything else people want to know how your product/service can improve their lives.

6. Test your banners: Because we've made designing banner ads so quick and easy, we suggest you design several, using different styles and messages. Run each one for a week or two and collect any data you can (such as click through rates). Analyze your data to determine what the more successful ads have in common and then refine your ads and test them again.

This banner making site is a little more complicated, but still do-able for the average person. It gives you tons of options for color of background, two toned banners, different color text, several fonts and some simple graphics that can be added. A great site that I have used for my own stores.

If you have an ebay store, one of the things you do not want to miss is Ebay Radio. Jim "Griff" Griffith, Dean of Ebay University, is the host of the radio show, which is on every Tuesday 11:00am to 2:00pm Pacific Time (2:00 to 5:00pm Eastern time). The show is also on Sunday afternoons. Griff covers all of the current hot eBay topics, has alot of wonderful guests, who always have great ideas and lots of information to help you out with your ebay experience, plus he gives the latest updates straight from eBay! The best thing, is that if you have a question or are having a problem with some aspect of eBay, you can call in and talk directly to Griff during the show. If he doesn't know the answer to your question, he will find out the answer for you. Now, I know alot of us work regular jobs too, and are not home at this time to catch the radio show, but never fear!! All of the shows are archived, so that you can go back and listen to anything you may have missed. Or, you just may want to hear a guest speaker again to pick up more tips.
