Why Make One?

Listen, or rather read on: a wedding speech, for all it's trickiness, is the ticket to establishing your fame as a  pundit and life of the party. But on a deeper sense, a good toast can guarantee that nobody  forgets such a beautiful wedding, and a cool couple.

A Crash Course on Wedding Toast Making

A wedding isn't complete without smart and witty ones!

Writing and delivering a wedding toast, or wedding speech (two totally unique tasks! whew) are known the world over as one of the most mind-sapping social tasks masquerading as effortlessly easy. Those tasked with this job remember that toasts can make or break reputations. Those who were shameful failures are of course best forgotten.

With a well meaning intention in place, how do you draft that speech that folks will recall and treasure for the right reasons? What kind of ice-breakers and one-liners can be suitable for your goal? Have you reflected on how you will go about with your speech, taking advantage of what effects you know your gestures and your facial expressions create on those listening?

A Few Tips About Toasts

Want some free tips? If you will deliver a toast for the newlyweds, try relating what you know about how they met (either dry and understated or with the crazy highlights), what are the hobbies they do together (plus wacky happenings that they earlier allowed you to tell, of course), things that when the they do together make them more endearing, etc. Those with tougher guts can attempt a cute poem with hilarious or feel-good rhymes, or a song sung to the tune of their favorite tune. The name of the game is always to enhance the people's appreciation of what a wonderful event this wedding is, and that this couple needs everybody to back them up.

Once your toast is over, it is customary to give the bride a kiss on the cheek and to shake the groom's hand. A bonus tip on etiquette: among other greetings, use "Best Wishes", and forget "Congratulations!" (I mean the bride might get hurt that she's treated like a prize.)

But what if nothing of this is helping you? Then it's time to discover what the Internet has to offer. Some special downloadable material are available on the Net to solve exactly this type of dilemma regarding original speeches. The original and the best wedding templates are waiting for you, and will need only a bit of practice before delivery, but packed with power just the same to help everybody remember such a beautiful wedding and such a fantastic couple.

Toasting Do's and Don'ts

There are a zillion ways to make this world a better place, but I say we start things when two people decide to live as one on the wedding day! And I bet you're with me! Check out the basic dos and don'ts in toast making below. Armed with such knowledge, I hope we will do our share in ridding this world of nitwit wedding speeches, hear?

Mignon McLaughlin
A successful marriage requires falling in love many times, always with the same person.

George Sand
There is only one happiness in life,
to love and be loved.

Do...

... organize your (positive of course!) thoughts and impressions about the couple well before the wedding ceremony.

... keep things simple and sweet since parents and older people will be present!

... keep the wedding toast simple and sweet, as in five minutes or less!

... face the couple when you toast!

... read from a card if needed and if it will add to your confidence.

... start the wedding toast by touching on how (mention a heartwarming adjective) the ceremony was that you have just seen.

... be warm and personal. If you are good at jokes, insert jokes. If you are not, then just be plainly you. Write this in bold letters at the top of your draft: your words-good or bad-will never be forgotten.

... end the toast with a positive twist, if not a blast, by echoing everybody's good wishes for the new couple's future.

... ask the assembled group to join you in the wedding toast, lift your Champagne glass, and say, "To (name of bride) and (name of groom)..."

... cap the wedding toast with the standard "Cheers!" or any other salutation, to signal the end of your toast.
