How to Lose Weight by Getting a Little Help and Support from Your Friends

If you are anything like me, everything you do is just a little easier when we do it with our friends. They lift us up, support us, encourage us, and even make difficult tasks easier somehow.

So, anytime I want to reach any goal, it helps to have the support and backup of my friends or be in a community of those with a similar goal.

There are a few different ways in which to get into a weight loss community, and to have the benefits of doing this with the help of friends.

For instance you may take a class taught by a certified weight loss coach. Just make sure that the class you take is appropriate, healthy and based on solid science so it works.

You may take this class with a group of your own friends, or be sure to develop friends in the class. Either way that support is very helpful in addition to the class itself.

A little friendly support can help to pare down your size.

Help is available, but you need to be proactive.

Until you get a Coach or take a class, or after taking a class-you may want to solidify your habits. You may do that by forming your own support group.

This is a great way to continue with the support you need, or to create that support on your own.

Weight Loss Communities Give Us the Support We Need

Whether taking a class, or creating your own support system with your friends-Support helps in achieving your goals

It helps to be in a community of friends that are like minded people.

As a certified weight loss coach, I work in groups where I see people get help from others besides me. The bonds of friendship and camaraderie goes a long way in helping each one reach and maintain their goal.

I also love the group setting from a personal standpoint. Since I have been teaching these classes, I am encouraged to continue on my weight loss path.

This will be an ongoing work in progress for me too, as I have always had a problem with my weight because of my genetics.

So, help yourself by forming your own support group. It could be with people in your neighborhood, where you work, or with some of your closest friends, etc.

Make it as fun as possible.

We find it easier to stick to something if it is fun, so put features in your group to make it very enjoyable.

When you form your own weight loss group, give your group a cute name like 'Mothers unite against Fat,' 'Weight Loss Divas,' 'Weight Loss Warriors' or something you like that tickles your funny bone, or tickles you in some way.

You might as well have fun, right?

Do whatever will help you reach your goals.

One office group put a sign on the door during the holidays saying:

'We love you, but, please help us maintain our weight loss by not bringing us holiday candy or any other sweets this year.'

It worked. They lost weight and achieved their goals

So this can help.

Be Proactive Form a Fat Loss Community or Support group!

Let me know how it goes. You'll have Fun! and it will get you Results!! Too!

Besides deciding on a cute name for your group, include people that are fun too.

Make sure you make your special group fun and also help you reach and maintain your goals.

Weight Loss Goals and Contests

First Set your Goals

You and your friends need to have goals. Goals can be similar to taking a trip. You must know where you want to go, or where will you end up? You must have the end result firmly in mind, both with a trip and with weight loss.

Contests:

Contests are another way of both, having fun and helping you reach your goals.

You can put money or gifts into a pot, and be a little competitive. Make small goals that are much more reachable. That's more encouraging than having large very difficult goals.

Small victories impel you forward until you reach the big life changing ones.

Don't make the competition in pounds. Weight in itself is not a good determining factor. Make it inches instead. Scales can't tell what they are weighing. You could be a sack of potatoes or anything. Scales know nothing about body composition.

Would you trust me if I couldn't tell you from a sack of potatoes? I doubt it. Generally when people lose weight they lose water, muscle, vital tissue, bone, and some fat.

You want to lose fat-so check your inches, and make sure you are using the correct program designed for fat loss.

You will be the winner, whether you are or not, just as long as this helps you to continue to get the results you desire.

One Inch of Muscle Weighs Three Times the Amount as One Inch of Fat

Fat determines your bulk, your size and your Health

Losing the excess fat means so much more than just how we look. It also determines our health. I don't mean just a few vanity pounds here, I meal real life injuring fat.

Another reason scales just won't do in Weight Loss is that 1 inch of muscle weighs 3 times the amount as 1 inch of fat. Since muscle weight three times more than fat, scales are not useful. Use a tape measure.

To repeat, fat determines your bulk, your size and your health.

The correct eating plan means eating good, healthy real & whole foods like fruits and vegetables, just like you see in the beautifully illustrated picture.

They need to be the best quality you can get. You also need to get the correct amount of protein & right nutrients to assist you in fat loss.

You really are what you eat.

Important---Get Your Exercise and Drink Plenty of Pure Water

Encourge one another to get your exercise and drink Water, Water, Water

You can chart some vital components, besides your food and nutrients, make sure to get plenty of fresh pure water.

You also need regular activity or exercise. Make sure part of that activity is weight bearing.

Activities & exercise-have different types of impact on the body. Also, exercise helps boost metabolism and thus burns more fat and helps build muscle which actually burns fat too. Fat cells don't require any extra calories-muscles do (More about that in another lens)

Make some of your exercise stretching, some aerobic, some interval and don't forget strength training. Then, be sure to cool down properly.

The Buddy System

Your Friends and Buddies are the Lifeline of your continued weight loss

Your Buddy system is one the the best, most enjoyable and effective assets in your weight loss efforts.

Your friends and buddies can help and be a lifeline for you. They care. They love you. They will be there when you need them.

Friends are so important in our lives. If you have a buddy, or even several, as part of your support system, you can work toward a mutual goal and develop friendships that can last you a lifetime.

The expression friends through 'thick and thin' comes to mind. I don't think it was coined for weight loss-but who cares?

Strategies and Techniques for Cravings

How does my group handle cravings?

Now let's discuss some strategies for you and your group of friends.

One of the strategies for continued weight loss is:

Have a list ready for when you have cravings.

What do you put on your list?

Anything you wish, such as:

Plan on taking a hot soaking bath. Candles are nice.

Workout for 20 or 30 minutes

Go for a walk

Give yourself a facial

Do your nails

Or anything else you might want on that list. By the time you are finished with
your choice, your craving will be gone.

Support groups are always important when undertaking a project of any kind, and I think especially important in this case. Besides, it's so much more fun with friends!

Carmel is so right! I have been involved with changing my diet-- not necessarily for fat loss reasons, but for health reasons. I have a few people that I am close to who are doing the same thing, under the advice of a health care practitioner.

Just the knowledge alone that I am "in the same boat" with others is so encouraging to me. These are people with some hefty physical challenges and we all started to go to the same health care provider. The unspoken and spoken support is so valuable. They know what I am dealing with and I can appreciate their struggles and celebrate victories.

The end result is that we are closer as people and are starting to reap the benefits of better health.

I guess I could have done this by myself, but the support of people just like me to do this with me is so valuable.

Whatever your health goals or challenges may be, don't attempt to go at it alone. Find someone (s) close to you who wants the same healthy outcome as you and do it together.
