Biographical History of Elvis Aaron Presley
Elvis, was born to Vernon and Gladys Presley in Mississippi a on January 8, 1935. Elvis had a twin brother Jessie Garon who was stillborn. Elvis grew up as an only child. The Presley family moved to Memphis in 1948, Elvis went to Humes High school and graduated in 1953.The music influences back then were gospel music. Elvis would go to the all night sings as they were called back then. And the black rhythm and blues he was exposed to on Beale Street in Memphis. Country and pop music of the day also had some influence. Elvis started his career singing in 1954 with the Sun Records in Memphis. They sold his record contract to RCA Victor back in 1955. Elvis became an international sensation about 1956 with a whole new style and sound that came together from the diverse influence of his music background. His music brought in a new age for American popular culture and music.
Elvis starred in 33 very successful movies, and was a historical sensation with his live TV specials and television appearances. Elvis put on shows in Las Vegas live performances in concert on many tours. Elvis records have sold over a billion copies of his music. No other artist on the planet has very sold that many records. One of the reasons Elvis still holds the undisputed record of being the King of Rock & Roll. We have heard gold, platinum but not often do we hear of awards for multi-platinum. Elvis got awards for 150 different singles and albums. Never has there been another artist with accolades like this. Elvis won 3 Grammys from the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences being nominated 14 different times. At 36 Elvis received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
With all of the special privileges his celebrity status gave him, he still honorably served his country in the U.S. Army.
As the Undisputed King of Rock & Roll, good humor, excellent looks, charisma and kindness Elvis is know all over the world by his first name. Elvis holds the title as one of the most important contributors of popular culture in the twentieth century. Elvis passed away in his home at Graceland in Memphis on August 16, 1977.
