We don't have any hundred year old historic homes, monuments or museums that hold artifacts of ancient ruins in Wellington, Florida.In fact, the area of Wellington was just raw land up until the late 1950's.
C. Oliver Wellington bought all the land in what is know today as the Village Of Wellington in 1951. His vision was to create a planned unit development.
Mr. Wellington was from New York but he loved Florida and would come down to Florida as often as he could.
The road in Wellington called 'Flying Cow Road' is named after Wellington's initials.
It was all farmland back then with farmers living here. This area had the world's largest Strawberry patches! Wow, that amazed me! Strawberry fields for miles. I didn't even know you could grow strawberries in Florida like that.
There were also many flower growers and it is told that the views of all the beautiful flowers were very memorable.
C. Oliver Wellington died in 1959. His son, Roger Wellington took over the family affairs.
It was getting too expensive to keep all this farmland so he started to get it developed.
For years this was all just dirt roads, farmers, cattle ranchers and equestrian people.
Most of the houses did not start getting built until the late 70's and early 80's. Of course, today, Wellington Real Estate is still being developed with new subdivisions springing up around.
