Wenchang Chicken - One of the 4 Famous Hainan Food Dishes!

Wenchang ChickenAuthentic Wenchang Chicken (Wenchang Ji) is raised in Wenchang city. Chickens are kept in cages for about one month, and fed daily on banyan seed, sweet potatoes, coconut shreds, rice or peanut biscuits. On this diet the birds grow plump quickly, but are not fatty. The chicken is boiled and chopped into segments, resulting in meat which is tender with crisp skin and soft bones. Served with a dipping sauce of tea oil, ginger paste, salt, garlic and other spices, it is suitable to consume with a fine white wine and other dishes.

Simple to make... give it a try!

This may not be the authentic recipe (The fowl from Wenchang are specially raised for this dish) but it's very close to the real thing. You don't even have to spend much time carefully cutting the fowl into pieces, as the chef demonstrates. Try this recipe out. It will save you the airfare to Hainan!

Wenchang Launch Centre is Coming Soon!

Because of Wenchang's proximity to the equator (19 degrees North), there can be a greater payload launched by rocket than from any of the other sites on the Chinese mainland. As a result, China's State Council and Central Military Commission finally gave the approval for construction of the Wenchang Satellite Launch Centre. Building has recently commenced and the first launch is expected in 2013. The official reason for building this site is to launch satellites, but there is much speculation that manned space launches (including a moon shot) will be not so far away!

The main launch complex will be built in an 30 square kilometres area in Dongjiao town and Longlou town, about 40 minutes by car from Wenchang. Wenchang local government is also planning to build a space theme park nearby, where tourists will be able to watch launches taking place. The theme park will include an aerospace museum, space flight simulators, and other items of interest.
