Positive Parenting Is Important

Parenting is one of the toughest jobe I've ever experienced.  With 4 kids (2 from marriage #1 and 2 from marriage #2) it has become very challenging to make sure I stay on course and do the right thing for everyone.  I decided many years ago that in order for me to be effective I must remain positive.  There are four steps that I've set to help me to be the best parentI could be.

                 1. Understand that  I am a role model

                 2. Understand that I can not be friends with my kids.

                                        3.Understand  that I must be the one in control.

                                       4.Understand that being a parent is a 24 hour/ 7 day a week job.

I Am A Role Model

  As a parent I've learned to be aware of everything I am doing.  You'll be suprised how much our kids are paying attention to us.  They watch our every action.  I've had to be careful of what I say and what I do.  There is nothing more embarrassing than to have your kid use bad language  or give a negative gesture in public.  I ask myself "Where did he/she learn that".  I have only to look at myself and remember that those statemjents and gestures came from me.

I Can Not  Be Friends With My Kids

  In parenting I've found that setting boundries is an important tool.  Our kids must learn who is the parent and who is the kid.  As a parent I feel it is my responsibility to teach them how to behave and to be useful members of society  The role I have can be equated to a teacher.  I have valuable lessons that I must teach them.

I Must Be The One In Control

  In addition to not being my kid's friend THey must understand that I am the one in control..Bad behavior will not be tolerated.  Sometimes spanking is a great tool to maintain control.

Being A Parent Is A 24 Hour/ 7Day a Week Job

  I've been a parent for over 26 years.  There has not been one day that has gone by when I didn't perform some parental task.  That may have included making sure my 5 year old has taken his shower or lending my 26 year old some money to pay a bill.  Parenting is a job for a lifetime. 

Parenting is sometning that I really love to do.  I feel that this is what I'm here to fulfill.  By using these steps I feel that I've become a better person who has  learned the value of being a positive parent.
