Western Show Saddles and Tack

It's not really known when man first domesticated the horse. It is even debatable as to what society first used the horse as transportation. But we know for a fact that man at some point went from walking to riding. We believe the Chinese, Assyrians and Persians had learned how to break and ride horses 4,000 years before Christ.

There is evidence that supports the idea the Chinese culture involved the horse much earlier, and to a larger extent, in more ways than any other known civilization. Since they were the first equestrian pioneers, it just makes sense that they developed the first horse saddle, a simple but effective saddle cloth.

Throughout the development of riding, most civilizations either rode bareback or with a simple saddle cloth. In ancient Siberia, the Scythians, who were travelers, actually created saddles that were practical, functional and attractive. A 5th Century B.C. Scythian tomb uncovered a saddle cover delicately decorated with animal drawings made from leather, felt, hair and gold. It was also discovered that the Scythians cushioned their saddles and girths and even had stirrups made from leather.

As improvements started to be made, additions to the saddle came about and it is believed that the first 'tree' of the saddle was made in Asia about 200 BC. A primitive saddle tree kept a rider's weight centered and off the horse's back. This not only maintained the health of the horse, but extended the time he was able to work as well.

Towards the end of the Roman Empire, saddles were developed and began to look like the saddles of modern day.

Today two main types of horse saddles exist, the Hungarian, or English style and the Moorish, or Western style saddle. The Western style saddle has a horn that cattlemen and riders use for roping. The English saddle however has no horn, and is contains more padding.

The saddles of today come in many styles, such as the "Show Saddle", both in English and Western versions. The "Show" style saddles are used in competition that test both rider and horse.

I bought these spurs and a bit listed in a separate auction at an estate sale. They are marked EF Blanchard San Antonio NM. EF Blanchard was a bit and spur maker in New Mexico and Arizona in the 1930's and 1940's. These are still in using condition or could make a nice addition to someone's collection.

This jacket is out-of-this-world stunning. The cuff and collar are loaded with gold studs, a mix of teal elements, gold rimmed mosaic squares and large Swarovski Hematite stones. The shoulders have been dusted with a mix of black diamond Swarovski stones and dark gray studs. In person the sparkle is so elegant. This tuck-in style shirt is made from a medium/heavy weight double knit fabric, this is the nicest fabric money can buy%u2026you will not be disappointed. This material takes of 10 pounds...I've never said that before. The jacket is pictured with a large square shoulder pad, we're happy to add them at no charge. I love a big square shoulder for 2012. Hand wash, lay flat to dry.

These chaps are smooth black leather with a single concho in the back. The fringe goes all the way across the back. The leg has the equitation cut out at the foot with the drop to cover the heel. There is a small simple buckle for the front closure. Unzipped and laying flat the thigh measures 13 inches and the knee is 10 1/2. The inseam is 23 1/2 and the outer seam is 33. At the largest hole, the waist is 27 inches. The only visible wear is on the inside where the lower legs rub against the saddle but cannot be seen while riding. These chaps have no cuts, rips or tears and are ready for many more years of lead line and walk trot!

This company was known world wide for quality pony pleasure vehicles from 1881 to 1914. Was bought at an auction in Pleasantville, PA. Great shape for the time period. Still very useable. Incredible COMFORT and BALANCE both over fences and on the flat. This model has a proven track record of improving one's riding by encouraging correct rider position and improving the rider's weight distribution. The nice, wide, soft seat and seat design is great for ladies that tend to bruise themselves. The saddle design also accomodates a rider with a longer thigh. This saddle is not even broken in yet. I purchased it brand new (I LOVE the Biarritz model!), but by the time I received the saddle, my horse was no longer jumping and we now ride dressage. The marks you see are from someone trying it out for 2 weeks and obviously not using calf skin stirrup leathers, or there would have been no marks on the flaps. That's all the use that it ever had. You can still see the wax/conditioner applied by Devoucoux. Other than when it was out on trial, it has been stored in the house not a stable locker, and has been kept well conditioned. The saddle comes with the original Devoucoux beautiful padded saddle cover.

Gently used, freshly polished genuine Herm Sprenger KK Weymouth German Silver Bit, size 5 1/2" in excellent ready to use condition. 21mm mouth, 7cm shank. The KK Weymouth - often referred to as the "Balkenhol Weymouth" works completely different that a bit with a high port. When pulling the reins the port moves down on the tongue, there is no pressure on the palate. The reason is the special angle of 45 degrees to the front . Developed for horses with a sensitive mouth and suitable for introducing a horse to a Weymouth. Improvement of the chewing activity and of the contact with the rider's hand.

Lightly used 17" Tad Coffin Close Contact performance saddle for sale. This is the latest A5 model and was manufactured in November 2009. Barely two years old, it has been used since January 2010 and has been meticulously cared for to maintain its beautiful condition. These four 5 inch tall Mugs are marked on the bottom, Nassau China Co, Trenton NJ, with the number 599 in the center. Each mug has a hand painted scene on the front depicting an English Gentleman and his stubborn horse. These mugs, when placed together, actually depict a funny story. Each painting is signed, Cyril Gorainoff and after some searching online I found that he was Russian Calvary Officer who fled to America during the Russian Revolution. I was able to find a couple of other examples of his works, on Abercrombie & Fitch Plates, however I could not find another piece of Nassau China with Cyril Gorainoff Artwork. These four Mugs are in perfect condition with no problems or any repairs and all four of the paintings are also perfect with no wear or scratches.

A very unique Western American Cowboy Lamp, hand made from genuine Horseshoes and Boot Spurs plus includes the original Cowhide Lamp Shade in good condition. 9 foot Indiana Jones Style Bullwhip from Midwest Whips/Paul Nolan. This whip was obtained by me about a year or so ago here on ebay and came to me used. It is a nice brown color, 12 plait whip made from kangaroo hide. The whip does show signs of use, however has no cuts or fraying. This a great whip, fast, accurate and cracks as loud as thunder very easily. I have put a new popper on it and will enclose an addition 6 extra poppers. This is a fantastic whip made by one the great whip makers in the USA, Paul Nolan.

The inside seat measurement is 12 inches. The seat and flaps are made of the one piece of superb English leather - there are no seams or joins to sit on. The rider is less than an inch away from the horse at the seat. J B Lordan is reputedly the finest stock saddle maker in the country, with a two year waiting list for his saddles. He is noted for his flawless craftsmanship, attention to detail, and the enduring workmanship of his saddles. The panels underneath are in perfect order, and made of heavy duty wool felt. The saddle is fully hand stitched - all stitching is in perfect condition. Our young rider at 60 kgs has grown out of this Lordan saddle. It has been used on solid ponies and stockhorses.

This halter by Kathy's show equipment is new in a Horse size, regular cut style. Halter comes with a Matching Lead. Silver pattern is the Santana Silver Plate which is the silver that requires very little upkeep and will keep it's shine. Pattern has gold ribbons running through it with beautiful blue stones. Also, berry edges on the ends with distinctive buckle,loop & Tip style. Leather is the finest Hermann Oak produces, very high quality. The halter has a 3-way connector in the back for easy adjustments. Matching lead with the 30" chain, made with same quality leather and long.

Here is a brand new handmade roping saddle from Cactus saddlery. This is one is half tooled with a beautiful floral pattern. It has a 15" seat with a 3 1/2" cantle, 13" swells, 3 " horn with a 3" cap. The gullet measures 6 3/4"s wide. This saddle is brand new and has never been on a horse. It has been hauled to the NFR and has been on the showroom floor so it will have some places from hauling it. They are shown in the pictures. It does not hurt a thing and as it is ridden it will become unnoticeable.It also has some antique stain on the back side of the swells at the bottom as shown in the picture. Ride it for two weeks and you will never see it again.
