Christian Religion: What is Christianity All About?

Bookmark and Share

Christianity is freedom! Christianity is an open expression of God's love on earth. It's not scary or mysterious! There is nothing done in secret or by cover of darkness. Christianity is more than a label that a person wears because they are born to Christian parents. It is an ongoing life process. Jesus wants us to come; just as we are. A person is cautioned not to wait until they think they are almost perfect. When the question, "What is Christianity all about?" comes up, many people believe that they already know. Lots of people go to church on Sundays, celebrate Christian holidays, and repeat scripted prayers. Christianity is not about the rituals. Frankly, it's not even a religion as most people think. When someone says they are a Christian, it's suppose to indicate their relationship with Christ; Jesus Christ, that is. Christianity is an identity.

Famous Christians

Kirk Cameron, a Christian actor, best known as Mike Seaver from the award winning series "Growing Pains, changed the course of his life after an encounter with Jesus. Albert Pujols of the St. Louis Cardinals and Avery Johnson of the Dallas Mavericks are also Christians. Joining them is Stephen Baldwin famed Actor / Director / Producer, and Zoegirl. "Zoe means 'life.' Not just life in general, but the kind of life attained through living according to the will of God in Christ Jesus.

A Christian confesses the love of Jesus through their daily activities. But, do not get the impression that Christians are perfect; far from it. Depending how long they have been nurturing their personal relationship and how much they are committed to that relationship, the issues in their life will fall off. Instead of reacting negatively to situations. A Christian is called to set the example; to show others a better way. Many people profess to be Christians; yet they do not exemplify the love of Jesus in their daily activities. Some people think that Christians are fake. If this rings true for you....are you really a Christian? Do you exemplify the life of Christ?

The Faith:

What Christians Believe, Why They Believe It, and Why It Matters

The Faith: What Christians Believe, Why They Believe It, and Why It Matters

The word "Christianity" conjures up many pictures, depending on who defines it. But Chuck Colson asserts that the faith "given once for all" is an invitation to a wonderful vision of life, open to all who will come. The Faith invites all who will - whether believers or skeptics - to explore the basic doctrines of Christianity and find out for themselves what it really means to be called a disciple of Christ - and how to live as a disciple. ~By: Charles Colson, Harold Fickett

Longtime collaborators Colson and Fickett address the very tenets of the Christian faith in order "to renew ourselves as Christians and the Church as God's people." Generally they do this well, first offering an overview of challenges facing the church and then moving on to specific core issues. Chapter builds on chapter, from "God Is" to "He Has Spoken" to "Truth" and so on to "Last Things." Especially thought-provoking is the question of why so many people accuse the Christian faith of being "dry and brittle." One answer, the authors say, is the church's "failure to teach what the faith is." Colson and Fickett call the church to rediscover the "joy of orthodoxy," to renew the surrounding culture and to rethink how we live out faith. "If there's ever been a time in which renewal was essential, it is today," they say. Those who know Colson's work will appreciate his pointed statements and bold words, while those looking for subtle shadings of doctrinal issues may be aghast at the lack thereof. The book's strength lies not in minutiae but in opening the discussion on orthodoxy and what living as a Christian means by going back to faith's beginnings.

In fact, they often bring about a sense of guilt and shame. Basically, if you think about it, what we do in our daily lives should not be anything that causes us to feel guilty or gives cause to anyone else to feel embarrassed for us. Frankly, how can a person live a successful and happy life when they have skeletons in their closet?

Getting drunk is not healthy or wise. People get raped and killed, people rape and kill. Of course, we may not be speaking directly to you. Perhaps, you know people who have have embarrassing situations when they were drunk, gotten pregnancy because they had sex when they were drunk, accidently hurt someone when they were drunk. Or maybe nothing has really happened when they were drunk other than throwing up, falling down, and passing out.

Or maybe alcohol is not your sin of choice. Perhaps sex is. Sex outside of marriage is not healthy or wise; either. Being with more than one partner is hazardous to your health. The possibility of passing on a life altering disease is real. Ask one of the millions of people who must take medicine for the rest of their lives. Or ask the family of someone who had a loved one who died from AIDS. Or ask a person who has to live with herpes. Not nice, not nice at all.

Then, of course, there is the whole pregnancy thing. Abortion is an option many woman take to get rid of an unwanted pregnancy. But, what is not often talked about are the emotional scars from that procedure. Lots of woman are tortured by the fact that they had "life" inside of them and they chose to end that life. Many times, they don't even know that that is the reason for their lifelong depression, addictions, or mean streak. It's an attempt to cover-up the hurt inside. All of those things do a pretty good job of covering up, but no healing takes place.

Most people intuitively know right from wrong; even when they try to justify their behavior as "relative." There is very little, if anything, in the category of relative when it comes to humanity. Right is right and wrong is wrong. Gray areas only exists because people are stiff necked and refuse to honor the "Truth!" Don't let this be you. There is a worldwide hunger for God. God puts that hunger inside of us. He wants us to search for THE TRUTH. It is simply not true. Begin to loosen your neck and let the Word of God work on your heart. You will feel a lot better.

Even If You Are Not A Christian

There is still ONE GOD!

IN GOD WE TRUST
ONE NATION UNDER GOD

I only hope we find God again before it is too late!!

The following was written by Ben Stein and recited by him on CBS Sunday Morning

Commentary.

My confession:

I am a Jew, and every single one of my ancestors was Jewish. And it does not bother me even a little bit when people call those beautiful lit up, bejeweled trees, Christmas trees.. I don't feel threatened. I don't feel discriminated against. That's what they are: Christmas trees.

It doesn't bother me a bit when people say, 'Merry Christmas' to me. I don't think they are slighting me or getting ready to put me in a ghetto. In fact, I kind of like it It shows that we are all brothers and sisters celebrating this happy time of year. It doesn't bother me at all that there is a manger scene on display at a key intersection near my beach house in Malibu .. If people want a crche, it's just as fine with me as is the Menorah a few hundred yards away.

I don't like getting pushed around for being a Jew, and I don't think Christians like getting pushed around for being Christians. I think people who believe in God are sick and tired of getting pushed around, period. I have no idea where the concept came from that America is an explicitly atheist country. I can't find it in the Constitution and I don't like it being shoved down my throat.

Or maybe I can put it another way: where did the idea come from that we should worship celebrities and we aren't allowed to worship God as we understand Him? I guess that's a sign that I'm getting old, too. But there are a lot of us who are wondering where these celebrities came from and where the America we knew went to.

In light of the many jokes we send to one another for a laugh, this is a little different: This is not intended to be a joke; it's not funny, it's intended to get you thinking.

Billy Graham 's daughter was interviewed on the Early Show and Jane Clayson asked her 'How could God let something like this happen?' (regarding Katrina ) Anne Graham gave an extremely profound and insightful response. She said, 'I believe God is deeply saddened by this, just as we are, but for years we've been telling God to get out of our schools, to get out of our government and to get out of our lives. And being the gentleman He is, I believe He has calmly backed out. How can we expect God to give us His blessing and His protection if we demand He leave us alone?'

In light of recent events... terrorists attack, school shootings, etc. I think it started when Madeleine Murray O'Hare (she was murdered, her body found a few years ago) complained she didn't want prayer in our schools, and we said OK. Then someone said you better not read the Bible in school. The Bible says thou shalt not kill, thou shalt not steal, and love your neighbor as yourself. And we said OK.

Then Dr. Benjamin Spock said we shouldn't spank our children when they misbehave because their little personalities would be warped and we might damage their self-esteem ( Dr Spock 's son committed suicide). We said an expert should know what he's talking about. And we said OK.

Now we're asking ourselves why our children have no conscience, why they don't know right from wrong, and why it doesn't bother them to kill strangers, their classmates, and themselves.

Probably, if we think about it long and hard enough, we can figure it out. I think it has a great deal to do with 'WE REAP WHAT WE SOW.'

Funny how simple it is for people to trash God and then wonder why the world's going to hell Funny how we believe what the newspapers say, but question what the Bible says. Funny how you can send 'jokes' through e-mail and they spread like wildfire but when you start sending messages regarding the Lord, people think twice about sharing. Funny how lewd, crude, vulgar and obscene articles pass freely through cyberspace, but public discussion of God is suppressed in the school and workplace.

Are you laughing yet?

Funny how when you forward this message, you will not send it to many on

your address list because you're not sure what they believe, or what they

will think of you for sending it.

Funny how we can be more worried about what other people think of us than what God thinks of us.

Pass it on if you think it has merit. If not then just discard it... no one will know you did. But, if you discard this thought process, don't sit back and complain about what bad shape the world is in.

My Best Regards, Honestly and respectfully,

Ben Stein
