Canada is an exciting place to visit and an even better place to live!

Although I was born in the UK I now live in Canada with my wife, who is Canadian, and my two children. During the last 10 years I`ve seen some great parts of Canada and some parts that I still want to visit!

With this in mind I`ve compiled a list of some of the things that I`ve done or want to do while I am in Canada. Its not an all inclusive list but its a good start for anyone thats coming to visit or who already lives here.

I hope you have fun reading my list.

Your First Steps in Canada

Canada is HUGE and it can be hard to know where to start if you are coming for a visit. For starters each province has very different, even extreme, weather conditions and you can be caught unawares if you don't plan ahead.

For example in Winnipeg, Manitoba, you can expect a fairly large amount of snow in winter, whereas in Toronto, Ontario, this is less likely. These provinces are next to each other yet are separated by many miles (over 2000kms).

Lots of people come to Canada to ski in the Rockies annually and it comes as no surprise as the views can be breathtaking. With places like Banff, Lake Louise and Jasper in Alberta with Whistler and several more in British Columbia the novice and advanced skier alike will be spoilt for choice.

Chamonix, France

Niagara Falls, Ontario

Another reason to come to Canada is Niagara Falls. Niagara Falls runs between Canada and the USA (Ontario to New York State) and is one of nature's wonders of the world. This is a must see if you are in Ontario and you'd be mad to not take a tour of the falls itself.

Vancouver

In Vancouver, BC, you can storm watch (I kid you not) on Vancouver Island and be amazed at the power and fury of one of nature's wonders.

The 2010 Winter Olympics

While you're here why not visit the site of the upcoming 2010 winter Olympic games which is also being held in Vancouver. Take some stunning shots of yourself standing on the same hallowed ground as some of the world's greatest athletes.

Lots to do in West Edmonton Mall

A trip to Edmonton wouldn't be complete without a visit to West Edmonton Mall with its water parks, playgrounds, roller coasters, skating rink and shops!!!

The Rockies by Train

If you can afford it, take a trip through the Rockies by train for the most spectacular views of snow capped mountains and granite ridges.

The Canals

If you've seen Niagara Falls then maybe you'd like to go and visit the highest hydraulic life lock in the world on the Trent Canal in Peterborough, which lifts not just the boats but the water as well!

When in Toronto, Reach for the Sky!

If that's not enough then you should also take a quick visit the CN Tower in Toronto! You can manually climb the 553 metres to the top or take a elevator, you choice! Eat at the 360 restaurant offering panoramic views high above Canada's biggest city!

A Trip to Canada isn`t Complete without Whales!

If you're in Quebec then maybe seeing a whale is more you type of thing? Watch for whales where the Saguenay River meets the St. Lawrence. Although whales can be seen in many places in Canada, this is where you can observe the greatest variety!

Eat and be Merry!

If you're into food then watch Montreal's famous bagels being made at the open-all-night bagel shops in the Plateau district of Montreal for a real tasty treat.

Sesame Seed Bagels

Mmmmmmm, Lobster!

Speaking of excellent food, if you happen to visit New Brunswick, hop aboard the Shediac Bay cruise to learn everything you ever wanted to know about lobster. You'll help haul in the traps, cook the lobster, crack it properly and then feast on it. You can also compete in a lobster-eating contest during the lobster festival in Shediac -- the self-declared lobster capital of the world.

Fresh Lobster

Although I can't post everything you could ever do in Canada, I hope I have at least peaked your interest in seeing something while visiting this great country, or if you already live in Canada I hope this gives you some ideas for road trips you might take in the near future.

Whatever you decide to do, make sure it's safe and that you have fun!

I am from Canada and I miss it a lot since I live in France. And I try not to think about Montreal's bagels or Maguire (in Quebec city) bagels. There is no decent bagels here in France. And I miss snow :)
