An Introduction

When you are in the market for a new, used or special instrument, first, beginner, choice classic or upscale, top-grade classical, acoustic guitar, you need to know what kind of techniques, music and repertoire you will be wanting to play, pursue and master. What kind of style and playing technique will also play into the selection. Your skill-level and whether or not it is your first, second or stand-by instrument.

Certain styles sound better on certain types of guitars/instruments. Classical guitars will have a hard time with some of the rock song guitar effects. Strumming, singing, accompanying yourself or other singer, small group and acoustic guitar will do the trick for your needs.

Bigger groups and larger rooms, setting, opt for an acoustic electric guitar, for rock music and super-stage applications, solos etc. opt for a full-blown electrical guitar. These are typically a lot easier to play for beginners (believe it or not), but you will need an amplifier and some accessories to bring it to its full potential, practice and rock on.>More

History Facts

Acoustic Guitars: History Facts

There are clear differences in the designs, types of materials used When you are dealing with a musical instrument with such a rich heritage, origin and history, especially a hand-crafted design, meant to be played not amplified by electrical means, this modern version of the classical guitar, offers bright, tone-rich, louder strumming and playing sounds. Typically these are strung with steel strings, also called a folk guitar.

According to online sources Antonio Trees was the inventor of the guitar. Dating back to Spain and the 14th century according to some, the acoustic guitar's main purpose was soothing, entertainment, gathering, a social enabler of sorts. During the 16th and 18th centuries it spread across the European continent, spreading to Latin America, Mexico, Hawaii, it is truly living up to its name - the instrument of /for the people.>More

How much will you pay for your guitar

Determine how much money you have and want, can afford to spend. There is a wide range of prices and options depending on your means and financial allocation for this purchase. The cheaper down the ladder you go, the more you get what you pay for. Cheap will not sound good to you for long. It might not be a robust and the sound quality will be less than you expect. If and when you get better, is not a good argument for postponing making a good investment upfront. If you cannot afford a decent instrument at least, save, get an extra job, do odd jobs, collect or get someone to loan you the money to pay for it. Cheap guitars will not stay in tune, show wear and tear quickly and are typically harder to play, especially for those beginner fingers and hands of yours. Sounding poor and not feeling like you are making any progress has been many a player/learner's downfall. It does not take much to give up, get de-motivated and just quit. Make the right decision from the start to invest in a quality instrument. Cheap is not the way you want to go. Unless you are a little toddler, with your first instrument! That might still be a legitimate motivation and rationale to stick to a cheapie.

At least $300 US is a bottom ranger for a decent, entry-level guitar or decent acoustic to get you started.Ā  USA manufactured, made of solid wood, that will hold its resale value and might be a little more expensive, but worth every cent extra. Ensure it is not made of cheap plywood as the sound will be as economical>More

Guitar Facts

Acoustic Guitars: Guitar Facts

The different parts of the acoustic guitar are the neck, body, face, fret, head, sound-hole, bridge, nut, fingerboard and the tuning-pegs. There are many types of different guitars. Like the f-hole, solid body, flat top, twelve string, as well as the electric guitar. Many argue that the initial inspiration and design for the guitar claws back to the time of the lute.

The different strings on the guitar each make a different sound. Thinner for higher, thicker for lower pitches. Plucking or strumming the strings, causes vibration of the strings, which are then transferred to the sound hole.

If you encounter an instrument that some refer to as a 12 string, it refers to an instrument with twelve strings.(count the tuning pegs to be sure). If you see only six, then it is a six string.

There are two ways to play the guitar, by picking and by strumming. More on playing techniques later. Picking means you pluck one of the strings with your right-hand finger and you have sound and music, easy to do and play. Holding position and plucking techniques are of the utmost importance when playing the guitar. Strumming means you run your fingers down all the strings at once playing chords.

Each of the six strings on a guitar are tuned from lowest to highest, so each string plays a different note. Guitarists use their left hand to get even more notes from each string by placing their fingers on different parts of the fretboard.>More

Guitar Construction

Acoustic Guitars: Guitar Construction

When it comes to construction, types of materials used, mostly woods, the preference falls on spruce for the tops of the guitar and mostly rosewood, mahogany or maple for the side and back. Some cheaper models are simply laminated. (starter, low-level, beginner type guitars are cheaper and this is one reason for that). The necks of the guitars are manufactured, crafted from Philippine or Honduran mahogany mostly while fretboards demand a little more. Tropical, dense hardwood (ebony, rosewood and others) are oftentimes used for this important task, sturdy, robust and lasting a long time, is what really matters. Quality, combination of design and constructiongives it the timber and tone, sound quality. Hand-crafter guitars are more expensive. Players will be the first to tell you that the sound only improves with age and the passage of time.

Sizes of the soundboxes can vary, depending on whether it is a classical or steel guitar. Higher and varying string tension, will require heavier construction and more robust components logically. Bracing will also differ, depending on the type and application of the guitar, for example flamenco guitars, (ladder-braced, flat-tops).
