How To Know If Your Toddler Is Ready For Potty Training

It can be a bit confusing sometimes to know exactly when to start potty training toddlers. One person will tell you one thing and someone else will tell you another. People may say the best potty training age is this, or that. Actually, it is individual to each child.

The truth is that there are signs to look for that will tell you when is a good time to start toilet training. Once you see these signs you can then start your potty training process. It is possible to have your little one potty trained in only 3-days.

The best potty training age is usually between 18 months and 3 years old and the signs of readiness usually start to be noticable then. It is not neccessary for your child to be showing all the signs, but it is a good idea if they are showing at least 3-4 of them.

Once you think your child is at potty training age the signs of readiness to look for include:

1. They are staying dry for at least 2 hours at a time.

2. They are having regular bowel movements at about the same time most days.

3. They recognise that they are going to the toilet. Sometimes they also have facial expressions as well.

4. They don't like the feeling of being in a dirty diaper. Sometimes they will take it off themselves or they may ask you to change it.

5. If they are able to take their pants off and on themselves. This makes it a lot easier for you and makes them feel very grown-up to do this when potty training.

6. If they ask questions about going to the toilet and/or want to watch you going to the toilet.

7. Sometimes they may even ask to sit on the potty.

It is also a good idea to try and do your potty training in the summer months. It makes it a lot easier for your child when they haven't got as many clothes to take off and also is a lot easier for you to clean any accidents they have and to do the washing.

Once you see these signs it is then time to start your child potty training.
