Four options to buy your iPhone 3g, two or only one? :

Well, it pretty much looks like the latter to me. First of all, there are 2 online stores where you could go shopping for your new cellular: Walmart and Best Buy. The two of them offer you pretty much the same options:

- THE TWO OF THEM make you sign up a phone service contract with AT&T for TWO YEARS, if you don't already have one.
- NEITHER ONE OF THEM lets you complete your mobile purchase online. You need to buy your iPhone 3G at a local retailer.
- They only offer the apple iPhone 8GB Black Model and the apple iPhone 16GB in white or black
- Official price ( - $2 ! in the case of Walmart; Best Buy does offer some discounts but for refurbished cell phones, and the DON'T generally equal the deals from THIS SITE )

There are, of course, two more online stores where you can purchase an iPhone entirely through the internet: AT&T itself and the Apple store. However, you are again limited when it comes prices and model choice ( the same as mentioned before ). Needless to say, you MUST sign up a contract with AT&T that binds you for TWO WHOLE YEARS at $30/month. Not good enough, if you ask me.

Then, there's another option for you to purchase an iphone 3g online at the cheapest price, that lets you CHOOSE from a variety of cell phone models and whether you want to subscribe to the AT&T data service or not. Customer service reliabiity is not an issue, either. We'll get to that in our next iphone reviews.

As seen in my previous iPhone review, buying an iPhone 3G from the "usual suspects" is not the best way to encounter the cheapest iPhone deal. About a week ago I read in an iPhone forum about someone who wanted to give away his iPhone 3G to his daughter as a gift, and buy himself a new one. The problem was that he didn't want the old iPhone - the one his daughter would use - to have the phone service ( anyone with a 13 year old daughter can understand why ).

Since then, I've seen a few questions more regarding more or less the same issue ( the use of the iPhone 3G without the phone service ), so I've decided to just address this.

The answer is this: People, YES, of course you can...that is, as long as your iPhone has been activated already. Nobody, not even Apple, will force you to use a function you've already paid for if you don't want to. If you have any doubts, just take your SIM card out and try.

How you re-activate the phone service will depend on how you activated it in the first place, but that's a different issue.

Has it happened to you? It certainly has happened to me. Your cell phone rings and, when you see who it is, you just wish you could vanish. Well, thanks to your iphone 3g, now you can. Sort of...

In order to ignore an incoming call on your iPhone, you just have to use the "Sleep/Wake" function. When the call arrives, all you need to do is push this button once and your cell will stop ringing. If you push the Sleep/Wake button for a second time, your iphone will also send whoever is calling to the voice-mail.

This I learnt from a friend of mine:

If you ever get a message saying one of the accesories is incompatible with your iPhone cellular phone, there's a good chance it's just a dirty bottom port causing the trouble. Believe it or not, the dirt may cause your iPhone to think thre's something trying to connect to it, and since your cell does not recognize dirt as an authorized accesory...

Just clean the port very carefully ( with compressed air if possible ) and the messages should disappear.

All you need to do is go to the "settings" app. Once there, choose "general" and then "the "usage option". Finally, make sure your battery percentage is set to "on". That's it.
