Designs from my Chemo Journal Drawings during Breast Cancer

During chemotherapy and radiation (at the same time) I kept journals. Soon the designs became more important to me than the words. I used simplified abstract imagery, pens, watercolor and acrylic. For these items I extracted some images from the larger drawings, each of them a meaningful part of my cancer recovery process.

I placed the images on CafePress items, extracted from the text. I am developing the text to accompany each design, for gifts to augment the healing process and to celebrate strong cancer survivors experiences.

Education Builds Confidence

Getting the news that you have Breast Cancer can change your life forever. At first you may feel powerless, yet through education - research and asking questions - it becomes easier to grasp the power and begin making wise choices.

Journaling During Chemotherapy, My Job and My Joy

Again, this drawing focused on the new growth, both physically in the form of hair and healing, and emotionally and psychologically. If depression threatened, I washed it away in the rain at the top. I developed an iconography in tiny stamp images, each based on an individual event.

My own Whip Cancer designs on Journals

Journaling during cancer treatment creates a record and relieves stress!

My journaling had already become drawing with text by the time of my breast cancer diagnosis. I dated each drawing, adding pertinent information and played with abstract imagery to express my feelings and thoughts regarding every aspect of treatment.
