Why the Lymphatic System?
Ranked #7,608 in Healthy Living, #129,035 overall
Why keep the lympatic system in Good Working Shape?
Remember the popular saying: "Cleanliness is Next to Godliness?" This is just as true for for the inside of our bodies too.
The Lymphatic system helps keep our insides cleaned up - sweeps up and retrieves poisons, toxins, old proteins, bacteria, viruses, parts of cells and much much more.
It doesn't have its own pump though, such as the heart pumps our blood - in connection to our cardiovascular system, so it is important to move to keep it in good working order.
As someone who has always loved activity, movement and exercise I didn't have much trouble with keeping my lymphatic system moving and in good shape. Now though, since I have had a knee injury I am learning different ways to keep my lymphatic system moving by making adjustments to my own lifestyle.
Since there are so many who either don't like to exercise, or are unable - I want to share what I am learning with you.

Demonstarating the Lymphatic System
Why are we told - the Lymphatic System is such a major part of the immune system?
The Lymphatic System is a major part of the immune system. The lymphatic system aids the immune system in destroying pathogens and filtering waste so that the lymph can be safely returned to the circulatory system.
The following are some of the ways it assists the immune system:
To remove excess fluid, waste, debris, dead blood cells, pathogens, cancer cells, and toxins from these cells and the tissue spaces between them.
The lymphatic system also works with the circulatory system to deliver nutrients, oxygen, and hormones from the blood to the cells that make up the tissues of the body.
So, the function of the Lymphatic System is to move and them remove the toxic substances from the body.
What better way to help you to be your healthiest and most vital.
Parents it's never too early to start your kids exercising and moving that Lymph System.

How does the lymphatic system compare with our cardio-vascular system?
How does the lymphatic system compare with our cardio system?
Our cardiovascular system has a pump-the heart. It helps keep our blood deliver life-giving oxygen and nutrients to all of the organs and cells of the body. Yes, we must keep it healthy too, but with the lymphatic system we don't even have a pump so we must either move or be creative to keep it moving.
Our lymphatic system is a part of our immune system, and is our garbage retrieval and removal department of the body. It is also connected to every organ of the body, but its function is completely different from the cardiovascular system. It is the garbage collector. It is an internal vacuum cleaner. It sucks up refuge and waste, toxins and excess fluid from each and every organ. If this flow is impaired, the fluid becomes thick and toxic. The body will then become impaired in eliminating waste and toxins, and begin to fill with its own waste. Our healthy body now becomes a breeding place for infection. As you can see, the lymphatic system is very important in keeping us healthy.
The following is a simple explanation of why we need our lymphatic system to work:
Lets say, for instance we have an injury to part of the body. Our body is wonderfully made, and we have a system in the body to repair that injury. It involves communication throughout the entire body and so the troops are called in to repair the injury. That involves special cells, lymphocytes, to do that repair work, and it also involves having the right tools - or nutrition. . And with all jobs, usually debris is left which needs to be swept together and carried off.
If the lymphatic system is not working - up to par - then the debris is piled up and it even becomes stagnant. That takes up space - so swelling, redness and pain is what we are left with. I don't know about you, but I don't like swelling redness and pain. So, we need our lymphatic system to continue to work efficiently.
Now here comes the real problem. Most illness is due to this excess amount of stagnant swelling left in the body. There are tests you can take to show just how much swelling or inflammation you have in your body. Or you could just work to make sure you don't have much swelling or inflammation in your body-by making sure your lymphatic system is working optimally.
What happens when the lymphatic system is blocked or congested?
You may be surprised at how many issues the Lymphatic System works with.
No, this is not a glamorous subject, but it is a very important one.
As previously stated, the lymphatic system is attached to each and every organ in the body. Notice in this section just how far - reaching this system is.
Many people have lymphatics that are congested. They don't even know it. Here in the U.S. he lymphatic system is the most over-looked system of the human body.
In Europe, stimulation of the lymph flow is the fourth most commonly prescribed medical treatment. Most U. S. healthcare practitioners seldom consider the lymphatic system's critical role in preventing illness or its importance to the over all healing process. Some of the organs that are part of the lymphatic system are lymph nodes and lymph veins, the tonsils, adenoids, appendix and the spleen and you know what happens to those parts of the body whenever surgeons get close to them. Swollen glands, with which most of us are familiar, are symptomatic of blocked lymph nodes, which indicate a breakdown in the mechanical functioning of the lymphatic system.
Since the lymphatic system assists all of the organs of the body - notice how many different issues can be involved with a blocked or congested lymph system:
Ear or balance problems
Arthritis
Headaches
Cellulite
Excessive sweating
Obesity
Inflammation
High blood pressure
Viral infections
Puffy eyes
Bacterial infections
Low back pain
Cancer
Allergies
Prostatitis
Chronic sinusitis
Heart disease
Eczema and other skin conditions
Loss of energy
Fibro-cystic disease
Chronic fatigue
Repetitive parasitic infections
M.S.
Edema
Lupus erythematosis
When your lymphatic system is blocked or congested, you definitely won't look or feel glamorous.
But, if you keep your lymph moving freely, you may look young as well as glamorous. So, keep it moving!
How do we clean up the debris in the body and effectly move the lymph?
When any work or repairs are made in the body there is generally debris left which needs to be swept together and carried off.
If the system is blocked or clogged up-it causes edema or swelling. that takes up space - so swelling, redness and pain is what we are left with. I don't know about you, but I don't like swelling redness and pain. So, we need our lymphatic system to continue to work efficiently.
Most illness is due to this excess amount of stagnant swelling left in the body. There are tests you can take to show just how much swelling or inflammation you have in your body. Or you could just work to make sure you don't have much swelling or inflammation in your body-by making sure your lymphatic system is working optimally.
Movement for Lymphatic Drainage
The number one way to facilitate lymphatic drainage is movement. That is because we do not have a specific pump for the lymph system.
If you are an active person, moving, or exercising regularly- you won't have a problem, but, if you don't like to move or exercise, or you are unable - you must find other ways to handle your lymphatic system.

One of the Very Best Ways to faciliate a Healthy Lymphatic System
One of my favorite ways to move the lymphatic system is by rebounding. It is easy, and fun.
From Dr. Walker we learn:
In jumping on a well-made rebounder, the exerciser usually feels invigorated and filled with a sense of well-being.
People who rebound find they're able to work longer, sleep better, and feel less tense and nervous. The effect is not just psychological, because the action of bouncing up and down against gravity, without trauma to the musculoskeletal system, is one of the most beneficial aerobic exercises ever developed.
Rebounding aerobics is working with gravity to cleanse your tissue cells and act as an oxygenator, which, in turn, lightens the load on the heart. Also it's fun to bounce!
Much more than fun, however, rebounding provides a number of physiological pick-me-ups for the person who sustains this activity for at least ten minutes, four times a day, or for a single daily session for 40 minutes.
As you bounce, your feet hit the mat with twice the force of gravity. Then just as the astronauts experience while floating in space, your body is in a state of weightlessness at the top of the bounce.
Jumping on the mini-trampoline is remarkably un-strenuous on the Joints. There's no solid ground to suddenly stop the bouncing of your feet. Your movements are perfectly safe, and they make the effect of gravity beneficial.
By working against constant gravitational pressure while bouncing, you resist the Earth's pull. Your resistance is subtle, but it builds cellular strength. Rebounding's alternating weightlessness and doublegravity produce a pumping action which pulls out waste products from the cells and forces into them, oxygen and nutrition from the bloodstream.
My Favorite Rebounder is my trusty Needak!

Quote from Total Health For Life:
The lymphatic system is connected to every organ in the body, but its function is completely different from that of the cardiovascular system. The lymphatic system is the "garbage collector", sucking up metabolic garbage, and toxins from the extracellular fluid of every organ. If this flow is impaired, the fluid becomes thick and toxic.

- Sorry to keep adding comments- I forgot to say this, though- I was having trouble with my lower legs swelling, mainly because of inactivity, sitting at a computer writing or driving long periods in my car. Then my husband and I started walking and jogging again and wow, what a difference. No more swelling. So if you are healthy enough to walk, the muscles of your calves will pump that lymphatic fluid back.

- Very important information. And you are right, our doctors never think about the lymph system and how to stimulate it. It is such an important part of our body and most people have never heard of it!
