Why It Is Never Worth Going Without Auto Insurance
Populations are growing steadily. More teens are on the roads than ever. Also, more elderly people are driving, too. With the tighter job market, increased pressure results in people rushing around more than they should be. The overall result is a driving environment filled with dangers and potential accidents. If you think you're exempt from getting in a wreck just because you feel like you drive safely, you're dead wrong. And even when something isn't your fault, you can still be found liable for damages! Don't gamble with your future. Get life insurance to keep you safe during unexpected crises on the road. For one thing, even if you could deal with being unsafe, auto insurance is legally required for most areas. The minimum insisted on by law is usually liability coverage, to protect other people and property from damage you accidentally cause. Even if you live in one of the few places where you don't need auto insurance, you'll still need the money upfront to handle any accident expenses, and most people can't handle that out of pocket.
If you think you can get by without auto insurance by simply fleeing the scene of an accident, think again. Most people who try this get to spend time in jail as a result. Running away is, in the eyes of the law, the worst thing you can do.
If you go driving without insurance or an equivalent amount of cash for coverage, you can suffer really severe consequences. Fines in the thousands are common. Other frequent punishments are the impounding of the vehicle, and yes, more jail time.
Let's say you get into an accident, and you don't have insurance. Whether or not the accident was your fault, you'll be penalized as mentioned above. Furthermore, if the accident was your fault, you'll have to pay for all resulting injuries and damaged yourself.
Can you really pay for all that along with the probable fine? Most people don't have that much money just sitting at the bank. If it's a bad enough accident, you could even lose your driving license!
Think about the thousands of dollars in medical and mechanic repair bills accidents often cost, along with fines, jail time, and other penalties. Now think about how much it costs to pay insurance premiums each month. Those premiums don't look so bad now, do they?
If you choose to drive without an insurance policy, you're making a fool's wager. Betting that nothing bad will ever happen to you is always a bad idea. Life will prove you wrong, and instead of small affordable premiums you'll have to handle a huge accident bill that you probably can't cover. What then?
Just suck it up, and buy the insurance. It's better to have a tiny bit less in the bank on average than it is to risk losing everything you have. Even the basic liability coverage is enough to literally save you a fortune in potential expenses.
