Widsith the Poet, Eric the Viking and King Gilgamesh
Widsith and Deor storytellers (S.V.Wolfland and Matthew Hammond) are presenting a unique double bill of ancient poetry and tales, called Widsith the Poet, Egil the Viking and King Gilgamesh. In one half, they will be doing poetry from the C10th Exeter Book of magnificent and stately elegies and laments, together with some rip roaring tales from the life of Iceland's greatest warrior poet and C10th psychopath, Egil Skallagrimson. The other half will be an abridged version of the extraordinary Epic of Gilgamesh - humanity's oldest story, and at least 5,000 years old. Pre-Biblical fire and brimstone from the east, and violence and comedy from the north, mix with the heartbreaking beauty of Anglo-Saxon England in this fascinating and enthralling show. Expect drinking horns, sword, drum, lyre, helm, verve and drama!
There will also be a reading from and copies for sale of 'Porlock the Warlock' a historical sci fi adventure for all ages by S.V.Wolfland, featuring local sites, and out now in paperback. Ever wondered how the Exeter Book got its three famous marks? Well, now's the chance to find out!

The poems are interspersed with tales, haunting, scary or frankly ludicrous from Viking and Anglo-Saxon Britain.
In the second half presents an abridged version on Mankind oldest story, the story of King Gilgamesh. Story of epic conflicts, which are sometimes comic, while at others tragic, and very often infused with politics which cross the aeons, but ultimately offers a very real kind of redemption that is as important now as it ever has been.
